v. Any Public School/ Board/ University examination in India or any foreign country is recognized as equivalent to the 10+2 system by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU).

vi. Higher Secondary Certificate Vocational Examination.

vii. A Diploma recognized by AICTE or a State board of technical education of at least 3 years duration.

viii. General Certificate Education (GCE) examination (London/Cambridge/Sri Lanka) at the Advanced (A) level.

ix. High School Certificate Examination of the Cambridge University or International Baccalaureate Diploma of the International Baccalaureate Office, Geneva.

x. Candidates who have completed the Class 12 (or equivalent) examination outside India or from a Board not specified above should produce a certificate from the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) to the effect that the examination they have passed is equivalent to the Class 12 Examination.

IMPORTANT DATES

The CUET UG 2026 notification was released by the National Testing Agency (NTA) on January 3, 2026, and the online application process also started on the same day. The original last date to apply was January 30, 2026, which was subsequently extended, while the application portal was also reopened from February 23 to 26, 2026. The CUET UG 2026 examination was conducted in CBT mode from May 11 to May 31, 2026, with some examinations subsequently rescheduled for affected candidates.

EXAM ANALYSIS

The CUET UG 2026 examination was conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) in Computer-Based Test (CBT) mode from May 11 to May 31, 2026, with some examinations later rescheduled. The exam covered Language, Domain-Specific Subjects, and the General Aptitude Test (GAT), depending on the subjects selected by candidates. Shift 2: Reporting/entry from 1:30 PM to 2:30 PM; examination generally started at 3:00 PM.

The actual subject-wise duration was determined by the examination schedule and the subjects allotted to the candidate. On May 30, 2026, the afternoon session at affected centres was temporarily revised to 4:00 PM because of a technical issue, with compensatory time provided by NTA.

Section-Wise Analysis

Language Section
The Language papers were generally Easy to Moderate. English included reading comprehension passages, vocabulary, grammar, idioms and phrases, sentence rearrangement, active/passive voice and narration. Vocabulary and some comprehension questions were comparatively time-consuming in several shifts. Overall, candidates with good reading and vocabulary preparation found the section manageable.

Domain-Specific Subjects
The difficulty of domain subjects varied considerably. Business Studies and Geography were generally reported as Easy to Easy-Moderate in several shifts, while History, Political Science, Economics, Accountancy, Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics ranged from Easy-Moderate to Moderate or, in some shifts, Moderate-Difficult. Most questions were closely linked to NCERT concepts, although numerical, application-based and statement-based questions required more time in subjects such as Mathematics, Physics, Economics and Accountancy.

General Aptitude Test (GAT)
The GAT was generally Moderate. Quantitative Aptitude and Logical Reasoning formed a substantial part of the paper, while General Knowledge and Current Affairs also contributed a significant number of questions. Candidates reported that the quantitative questions were mostly formula/concept based, but calculations and factual questions could make the paper time-consuming.

CUET UG 2026 Difficulty Level

The overall difficulty level of CUET UG 2026 was Easy to Moderate to Moderate, with significant variation according to the subject and shift. Language papers were mostly Easy to Moderate, several domain subjects were Moderate, and Mathematics and some numerical/conceptual papers could be more challenging. Since candidates appeared in different shifts and subject combinations, the difficulty level should not be treated as identical for every candidate.

CUET UG 2026 Good Attempts

Based on student feedback and post-exam analyses, rather than an official NTA benchmark, the approximate good-attempt ranges were:

Language: around 35–40 questions

Domain Subjects: around 30–40 questions, depending on the subject and difficulty

General Aptitude Test: around 30–35 questions

For easier subjects such as Business Studies or some Geography/Biology papers, a well-prepared candidate could reasonably attempt more questions, while Mathematics, Economics, Physics or lengthy papers could have a lower good-attempt range. Because CUET carries negative marking, the number of attempts should always be considered together with accuracy.

Overall Analysis

Overall, CUET UG 2026 was largely NCERT-oriented and ranged from Easy to Moderate to Moderate across different subjects and shifts. Language papers tested vocabulary, comprehension and grammar, while domain subjects focused substantially on NCERT concepts along with factual, conceptual and application-based questions. The GAT was moderately challenging, particularly because of the combination of quantitative, reasoning and GK/current-affairs questions. OVERVIEW

CUET UG is conducted for admission to undergraduate programmes offered by participating central, state, deemed, and private universities across India. The examination assesses candidates in languages, domain-specific subjects based on the Class 12 syllabus, and the General Aptitude Test, depending on the programme and university requirements. Admission is based on CUET UG scores, followed by university-wise merit lists, counselling, and seat allocation. Each participating university independently determines its admission criteria, merit list, counselling schedule, and seat-allocation process.

SELECTION PROCESS

The CUET UG selection process is conducted in multiple stages. The National Testing Agency (NTA) conducts the CUET UG examination and declares the candidates’ scores, while the participating universities are responsible for preparing merit lists and completing the admission process. The selection process generally includes the following stages:

CUET UG Application: Candidates first register for CUET UG and select the required universities, programmes, and subjects according to the eligibility and subject requirements of their preferred programmes.

CUET UG Examination: Candidates appear for the Computer-Based Test (CBT) in the subjects selected in the application form. The examination may include Language, Domain-Specific Subjects, and the General Aptitude Test, depending on the programme and university requirements.

Merit List/Seat Allocation: The respective university prepares its merit list or seat-allocation list using CUET scores and its own admission criteria. The university may conduct multiple rounds of allocation depending on seat availability.

Seat Acceptance: Candidates who are allotted a seat must accept the allotted seat within the specified deadline and complete the required admission formalities.

Document Verification: The university verifies the candidate's academic and other required documents, such as Class 10 and Class 12 certificates, CUET scorecard, category certificate (if applicable), identity proof, and other documents prescribed by the university.

Admission Fee Payment: After successful verification and acceptance of the allotted seat, candidates must pay the prescribed admission fee within the given deadline to confirm their admission.

Final Admission: Admission is confirmed after successful document verification, fulfilment of eligibility requirements, seat acceptance, and fee payment. The detailed selection and counselling procedure can vary from one participating university to another.
