CUET UG 2026 Exam Postponement Request By SIO

Description

The Students’ Islamic Organisation of India (SIO) has requested the National Testing Agency (NTA) to reschedule the CUET UG 2026 exams originally set for May 28, 2026, as the date coincides with Eid-ul-Adha celebrations. The organisation highlighted that this overlap could create challenges for candidates taking the national-level entrance test.

In a memorandum submitted to the NTA, SIO noted that students across the country have expressed concerns regarding religious observances, long-distance travel, and accessibility to examination centres. The organisation urged the examination authority to provide an alternate date, ensuring that candidates do not have to choose between their religious commitments and the exam.

Students face travel and logistical challenges

SIO stated that many students would need to travel across districts and states to reach their designated exam centres. Holding the exam on Eid-ul-Adha, the organisation argued, could place candidates under unnecessary logistical and emotional stress.

On social media platform X, SIO shared that it had formally requested the NTA to reconsider the May 28 schedule in the interest of “fairness, inclusivity, and accessibility.” The organisation emphasised that nationwide examinations involving lakhs of students should be planned with sensitivity towards major religious occasions observed across India.

CUET UG 2026: A critical national-level exam

CUET UG has become the primary pathway for admission to undergraduate programs offered by central universities and several other participating institutions. Conducted by the NTA, the computer-based examination is scheduled to run from May 11 to May 31, 2026. With over 15 lakh students registered, any scheduling conflict could have wide-ranging implications for candidates, universities, and exam authorities alike.

NTA yet to respond

As of now, the NTA has not announced any changes to the May 28 exam date. The official CUET UG 2026 schedule on the agency’s portal continues to list the dates as originally planned.
