CUET UG 2026: NTA Announces Retest For 3,765 Candidates After Technical Glitch

Description

A technical issue disrupted the CUET (UG) 2026 examination on Saturday, affecting candidates at multiple test centres and leading the National Testing Agency (NTA) to offer a special retest opportunity for a section of students.

According to the NTA, 3,765 candidates who had completed biometric verification but left their examination centres before the test resumed will be allowed to appear for a fresh examination. The glitch caused a delay in the commencement of the first shift at several centres. While the issue was eventually resolved and most candidates completed their exams, some students chose to leave before the examination restarted.

In a statement posted on social media, the NTA said that the majority of candidates were able to finish their tests after normal operations resumed. However, acknowledging the inconvenience faced by those who departed before the restart, the agency announced a one-time rescheduled examination for the affected candidates.

The NTA stated that details regarding the revised examination date will be announced separately. It also expressed regret over the disruption and confirmed that the technical service provider, TCS iON, has been directed to investigate the cause of the issue and submit a detailed report.

Earlier, the agency informed candidates that the technical problem had been fixed and that full compensatory time would be provided. Candidates appearing in the morning session were allowed to complete the full duration of their examination, while the afternoon shift was postponed to accommodate the delay.

As per the revised schedule, candidates for the afternoon session were asked to report by 2:30 pm, and the examination commenced at 4 pm instead of the originally scheduled 3 pm.

TCS Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director K Krithivasan described the incident as a brief technical disruption that delayed the morning session by nearly two hours. He said the issue was identified and resolved promptly, allowing the examination process to continue without affecting its integrity. The company also apologised for the inconvenience caused to candidates.

Meanwhile, several students and parents voiced concerns on social media about extended waiting periods and insufficient communication at certain examination centres. Some users reported that candidates had to wait for several hours in difficult weather conditions without receiving timely updates regarding the status of the examination.

CUET-UG serves as a national-level entrance examination for admission to undergraduate programmes offered by central, state, and several private universities across the country. Over the years, the examination has occasionally faced operational challenges, including technical glitches, scheduling changes, examination centre issues, and rescheduled tests.
