STUDY TIPS
To prepare for JEE Main, create a realistic timetable, focus on understanding concepts from NCERT and reference books, and prioritize revision with short notes and daily reviews. Regular, timed mock tests and solving previous year papers are crucial for building speed, accuracy, and identifying weak areas, which should be addressed immediately. Maintain a healthy diet, get enough sleep, and manage stress with breaks and light exercise for peak performance.
1. Understand the Syllabus & Exam Pattern
Start by going through the complete JEE Main syllabus and exam pattern. Focus mainly on Class 11 and 12 NCERT topics, as most questions are based on them.
2. Build Strong Basics

SELECTION PROCESS
The selection process of JEE Main 2026 is based purely on performance in the entrance examination conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA).
Step 1: Appearing in JEE Main 2026
Candidates appear for JEE Main 2026, which is conducted in two sessions (January & April).
For BE/B.Tech, Paper 1 is considered.
Candidates can appear in one or both sessions.
Step 2: Normalization & Percentile Calculation
Since the exam is conducted in multiple shifts, NTA uses a normalization process.
NTA Score (Percentile) is calculated based on relative performance across shifts.
The best NTA score out of both sessions is considered for ranking.
Step 3: Preparation of All India Rank (AIR)
Based on the final normalized NTA score, NTA prepares the All India Rank (AIR).
The AIR is released category-wise (GEN, OBC-NCL, SC, ST, EWS).
This rank determines a candidate’s selection status.
Step 4: Qualification Status
Candidates who score above the cutoff percentile are:
Declared “JEE Main Qualified”
Eligible for:
Admission to NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs
Appearing in JEE Advanced (for IITs), if within top 2.5 lakh candidates
Step 5: Cutoff-Based Selection
NTA releases category-wise cutoff percentiles.
Selection depends on:
Candidate’s percentile
Category
Number of candidates
Difficulty level of the exam
Key Points to Remember
JEE Main selection is merit-based, not interview-based
No GD/PI or additional tests
Selection depends only on normalized score & AIR
Appearing in both sessions improves selection chances

The question paper consists of three subjects: Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics.
Each subject includes two sections:
Section A: Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs)
Section B: Numerical Value Questions (NVQs)
A total of 90 questions are asked, out of which candidates are required to attempt 75 questions.
The total marks for the paper are 300 marks, with 100 marks allotted to each subject.
Each correct answer carries 4 marks, while 1 mark is deducted for every incorrect answer in Section A. There is no negative marking for unanswered questions, and Section B may have negative marking as notified by NTA.
The duration of the examination is 3 hours (180 minutes) for general candidates. For PwD/PwBD candidates eligible for a scribe, the duration is 4 hours.
Subject-wise Question Distribution:
Physics: 25 questions to be attempted (20 MCQs + 5 Numerical)
Chemistry: 25 questions to be attempted (20 MCQs + 5 Numerical)
Mathematics: 25 questions to be attempted (20 MCQs + 5 Numerical)

SELECTION PROCESS
???????
The selection process of JEE Main 2026 is based purely on performance in the entrance examination conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA).
Step 1: Appearing in JEE Main 2026
Candidates appear for JEE Main 2026, which is conducted in two sessions (January & April).
For BE/B.Tech, Paper 1 is considered.
Candidates can appear in one or both sessions.
Step 2: Normalization & Percentile Calculation
Since the exam is conducted in multiple shifts, NTA uses a normalization process.
NTA Score (Percentile) is calculated based on relative performance across shifts.
The best NTA score out of both sessions is considered for ranking.
Step 3: Preparation of All India Rank (AIR)
Based on the final normalized NTA score, NTA prepares the All India Rank (AIR).
The AIR is released category-wise (GEN, OBC-NCL, SC, ST, EWS).
This rank determines a candidate’s selection status.
Step 4: Qualification Status
Candidates who score above the cutoff percentile are:
Declared “JEE Main Qualified”
Eligible for:
Admission to NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs
Appearing in JEE Advanced (for IITs), if within top 2.5 lakh candidates
Step 5: Cutoff-Based Selection
NTA releases category-wise cutoff percentiles.
Selection depends on:
Candidate’s percentile
Category
Number of candidates
Difficulty level of the exam
Key Points to Remember
JEE Main selection is merit-based, not interview-based
No GD/PI or additional tests
Selection depends only on normalized score & AIR
Appearing in both sessions improves selection chances
