EXAM SYLLABUS
National Board of Education (NBE) conducts the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test Super Speciality (NEET SS) for admission to various super speciality courses viz. DM/ MCh (Doctorate of Medicine/ Magister Chirurgiae) courses.
All the questions in this examination will be PG exit level. There is no fixed syllabus for NEET(SS). The questions can be asked from all the topics that have been covered during both, the undergraduate and postgraduate qualifications. However, the subjects that need to be prepared will be limited to the feeder course and super speciality course selected by the candidate.
The NEET Super Speciality exam question paper is divided into two parts and the syllabus for both parts is as under :
Name of Test | Description | Weightage |
Part-A | Syllabus is based on the broad specialty (feeder course) you have completed (MD / MS / DNB). Questions are drawn from topics taught during your postgraduate training and related subjects. Each group corresponds to a set of super-specialty courses tied to one or more feeder specialties. Questions can be from core knowledge and advanced topics related to the super-specialties, essentially covering UG and PG level clinical and theoretical concepts in your field. | 150 Questions |
Part-B | ||
PART-C |

Analysis
EXAM ANALYSIS
Here’s a detailed exam analysis of the NEET SS 2025 paper — this helps you understand the pattern, difficulty, question types, and what it means for the upcoming NEET SS 2026 exam preparation:
1. Overall Difficulty Level
Most coaching institutes and candidate feedback rated the NEET SS 2025 paper from moderate to difficult rather than easy.
A significant portion of questions were clinical scenario-based and time-consuming, making time management critical.
Few direct recall questions (~20-25%) were present; most were application and clinical ones.
Takeaway: For 2026, focus not just on facts but on application, clinical decision-making, and patient scenarios.
2. Sectional Pattern and Timing Challenge
The exam had three sections of 50 questions each, with 50 minutes per section — candidates could not revisit sections once time expired.
This structure increases time pressure and requires strict pacing strategies.
Takeaway: For 2026, practice sectional mock tests with time constraints per section to improve pacing.
3. Question Types & Distribution
According to candidate feedback:
Clinical & application-based MCQs: ~40–50%
Conceptual questions: ~30%
One-liner/factual questions: ~20%
Also included were image-based interpretation questions and guideline-driven management questions.
Takeaway: 2026 prep should include interpreting clinical images, ECG, scans, pathology slides, and algorithm-based questions.
4. Difficulty by Group/Subject
Feedback highlighted variation in difficulty by specialty group:
Medical Group: Moderate to difficult, with emphasis on clinical judgment and updated treatment protocols.
Paediatrics Group: Moderate to difficult.
Obstetrics & Gynaecology: Relatively easier in some papers.
Surgical Groups: Moderate overall but clinical decision questions counted more.
Takeaway: 2026 prep should include high-yield, updated clinical guidelines across specialties.
5. Key Focus Areas / Topic Trends
Although official detailed topic distribution is variable by group, general observations include:
High-weight topics reported in Medical group:
Cardiology — arrhythmias, ischemic heart disease, valvular disorders
Gastroenterology & Hepatology — GI bleeds, inflammatory bowel disease, cirrhosis complications
Neurology — stroke management, epilepsy, demyelinating disorders
Takeaway: Strong knowledge of common clinical disorders and evidence-based management is essential for 2026.
6. Good Attempt & Accuracy Expectations
Experts suggested that to rank high, candidates should aim for high-quality attempts with strong accuracy, balancing speed with clinical judgment.
Negative marking and time constraints make accuracy critically important.
Takeaway: 2026 study plans should include multiple full-length and sectional mocks focusing on accuracy under time pressure.
7. Implications for NEET SS 2026 Preparation
Based on the 2025 trends:
Clinical Orientation
NEET SS 2025 relied heavily on clinical vignettes and integrated decision-making rather than pure recall.
Prep Strategy for 2026:
Focus on case scenarios from standard textbooks and guidelines.
Revise recent management protocols and clinical pathways across specialties.
Time Awareness & Section Control
Time-bound sections make it important to allocate time per section carefully.
Prep Strategy:
Simulate 50-question section tests with 50-min timing.
Practice pacing to avoid time loss due to long clinical questions.
Image Interpretation Skills
Image-based and interpretation MCQs are trending.
Prep Strategy:
Incorporate clinical images, radiology, pathology slides into revision.
Focus on High-Yield Topics
Earlier papers emphasized cardiology, gastroenterology, neurology, critical care and integrated management.
Prep Strategy:
Prioritize strong coverage of these domains, particularly for Medical and related groups.

Study Tips
STUDY TIPS
Focus on clinical application
NEET SS questions are largely clinical and scenario based. Do not study topics as theory alone. Always think in terms of diagnosis, investigation, and management.
Strengthen core feeder specialty
More than half of the paper comes from your feeder subject. Make your core subject very strong before touching super-specialty specific areas.
Practice time-bound sections
Each section has 50 questions with only 50 minutes. Practice sectional tests regularly to improve speed and decision-making under pressure.
Revise standard guidelines
Questions are often framed around current treatment protocols and guidelines. Regularly revise commonly used clinical guidelines relevant to your specialty.
Image and investigation interpretation
Prepare ECGs, X-rays, CT, MRI, pathology slides, lab reports, and flowcharts. Interpretation-based questions are increasing every year.
Accuracy over attempts
Due to negative marking and lengthy questions, accuracy is more important than attempting all questions. Avoid guesswork.
Regular revision cycles
NEET SS requires multiple revisions. One-time reading is not enough. Short notes and repeated revision are essential.
