STUDY TIPS
To excel in the MHT-CET 2026 exam, focus on mastering the 12th-grade Maharashtra State Board syllabus (covering of the exam) alongside class 11th topics, aiming for 99+ percentile with 6–8 hours of daily study. Prioritize Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics (PCM), utilize Previous Year Questions (PYQs), and take weekly mock tests to improve speed and accuracy.
Here are effective study tips for MHT CET 2026 (Maharashtra Common Entrance Test) conducted by State Common Entrance Test Cell Maharashtra.
1. Understand the Exam Pattern and Syllabus
Before starting preparation, carefully review the syllabus and exam pattern. Most questions are based on Class 11 and Class 12 Maharashtra State Board syllabus, so focus on those topics.
2. Focus on High-Weightage Subjects
For PCM group, give special attention to:
Mathematics (Calculus, Algebra, Coordinate Geometry)
Physics (Electrodynamics, Mechanics, Thermodynamics)
Chemistry (Organic Chemistry, Physical Chemistry, Chemical Bonding)
For PCB group:
Biology (Human Physiology, Genetics, Plant Physiology)
Chemistry
Physics basics
3. Study from NCERT and State Board Books
Start with NCERT and Maharashtra State Board textbooks because most questions are directly based on these concepts.
4. Solve Previous Year Question Papers
Practice previous years’ papers to understand:
Question types
Important topics
Difficulty level
This also helps improve speed and accuracy.
5. Take Regular Mock Tests
Attempt weekly mock tests and full-length tests during the final months. Analyze mistakes and improve weak areas.
6. Make Short Notes and Formula Sheets
Prepare a formula notebook for Physics and Mathematics and short concept notes for Chemistry and Biology. These will help during quick revisions.
7. Practice MCQs Daily
MHT CET is an MCQ-based exam, so daily practice of objective questions is essential to improve time management.
8. Revise Regularly
Revision is crucial. Allocate time every week to revise previously studied topics.
9. Focus on Speed and Accuracy
Since the exam is time-bound, practice solving questions quickly while maintaining accuracy.
10. Stay Consistent
Create a daily study schedule and follow it consistently. Even 4–6 hours of focused study daily can significantly improve your preparation.

...STUDY TIPS

COUNSELLING PROCESS & CUTOFFS
After the MHT CET results are announced, the State CET Cell Maharashtra conducts the CAP (Centralised Admission Process) for admission to engineering (BE/BTech), pharmacy and other professional courses. The counselling begins with online registration, submission of documents and payment of the counselling fee. Eligible candidates then participate in choice filling and locking of preferred colleges and branches. The CET Cell releases a merit list and conducts multiple rounds of seat allotment (usually three CAP rounds). After each round, candidates who are allotted seats must pay fees and confirm admission to secure their seat. Cutoffs for each round are published as opening and closing ranks for different colleges and categories.
Last Year Cutoffs (2025)
In MHT CET 2025 counselling, the official CAP round cutoffs varied widely by college, branch and category. For example, in CAP Round 1 for engineering, closing ranks for some colleges were: Shri Sant Gajanan Maharaj College of Engineering Shegaon’s Computer Science and Engineering around rank 15,312, Electronics and Telecommunication around rank 24,950 and Mechanical around rank 33,983 under All India quota. Less competitive branches and colleges had much higher closing ranks (above 50,000). Exact round-wise PDFs showing opening and closing ranks for 2025 were released by the CET Cell.
Data from specific colleges also shows 2025 closing ranks at some private institutes: at VIT Pune, Computer Engineering closed around rank 7,119 and other branches had varied closing ranks based on category and preference.
These ranks indicate where the cutoff roughly lay for various institutes during MHT CET 2025 counselling.
Expected Cutoffs for MHT CET 2026
Based on trends and expert analysis, the expected cutoffs for MHT CET 2026 will depend on overall performance, exam difficulty and seat availability. For general category candidates aiming for top colleges like College of Engineering Pune (COEP), VJTI Mumbai, PICT Pune or SPIT Mumbai, the expected cutoffs (in terms of percentile or marks) are generally very high. Safe target scores could be around 160 and above out of total marks, which roughly corresponds to 98–99+ percentile for top branches. Other good state colleges may have expected cutoffs in slightly lower ranges (for example 140–150 marks roughly corresponding to 96–98 percentile), while mid?tier colleges might have closing cutoffs in ranges that equate to around 90–96 percentile. Lower ranked colleges often have even wider rank ranges. These expected values are based on trends from 2024 and 2025 cutoffs and expert projections; actual cutoffs will be released by the CET Cell after counselling rounds in 2026.
In summary, counselling is an online CAP process with choices and seat allotment in rounds based on merit, and cutoffs in 2025 show that top institutes require extremely high ranks, while expected cutoffs for 2026 will likely follow similar patterns with slight changes based on performance and seats available.
