Last Conducted CDS Exam – CDS-II 2025
The CDS-II 2025 written examination was held on 14 September 2025.
It was conducted in three sessions:
English: 09:00 AM – 11:00 AM
General Knowledge: 12:30 PM – 02:30 PM
Elementary Mathematics: 04:00 PM – 06:00 PM
A total of around 9,085 candidates were shortlisted for SSB interviews after the written exam.
Exam Pattern (Typical & Expected to Continue in 2026)
CDS is a pen-and-paper, objective-type exam conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC).
It has three subjects in the written stage:
English
General Knowledge
Elementary Mathematics
Each paper usually carries 100 marks, and the total written score is 300 marks.
There is negative marking (1?3 mark deducted for each wrong answer).
Candidates who clear the written stage are called for SSB interviews for final selection.
Difficulty Level & Paper Trend (Based on CDS-II 2025)
English: Moderate
General Knowledge (GK): Moderate to slightly difficult, with emphasis on current affairs, history, polity, science, and geography (GK section was tougher than English).
Mathematics: Moderate, based on class 10 & 12 fundamentals but requiring accuracy and speed.
Overall, students reported that CDS-II 2025 was balanced but competitive across subjects, meaning a sound conceptual base, quick calculation skills, and strong reading comprehension were important.
Expected Cutoffs & Qualifying Trends
While official cut-offs are declared by UPSC after results, recent trends show the following approximate marks (written exam):
Academy / Entry | Expected Written Cutoff (Approx.) |
Indian Military Academy (IMA) | 119 – 131 |
Indian Naval Academy (INA) | 104 – 121 |
Air Force Academy (AFA) | 146 – 151 |
OTA (Men) | 73 – 84 |
OTA (Women) | 75 – 85 |
What This Means for CDS 2026 Aspirants
Pattern & Expectations

2. Candidates must obtain the speed of making calculations, as they can’t afford to waste time in calculations while solving the mathematics section.
3. Start preparing the important topics first, at the same time, delegate time for the difficult topics.
4. Memorize simple calculations such as squares and cubes and learn tips, tricks, and shortcuts for efficient time management.
5. As there is negative marking in the exam, they should mark the answer only if they are sure about it. Do not guess the answers during the exam.
6. If you are really serious about passing the written exam and scoring well in it, consider solving as many question papers that you can lay your hands upon. The trend so far has been that the blueprint of the written examination has not changed significantly over all these years.
