EXAM PATTERN

The WBJEE exam is conducted in offline (OMR-based) mode and consists of two papers held on the same day with a total duration of 4 hours. Paper I (Mathematics) is of 2 hours, carrying 75 questions for 100 marks, while Paper II (Physics and Chemistry) is also of 2 hours, containing 80 questions (40 Physics + 40 Chemistry) for 100 marks, making the total paper 200 marks. Questions are divided into three categories: Category 1 carries 1 mark per question with negative marking, Category 2 carries 2 marks with higher negative marking, and Category 3 includes one or more correct options with 2 marks and no negative marking. Candidates appearing in both papers are eligible for engineering and pharmacy courses, while those appearing only in Paper II are eligible for pharmacy courses only.

Note : There will be two paper. Paper-I (Mathematics) & Paper-II (Physics & Chemistry)

Marking Scheme Highlights

1. In case of a wrong answer, 1/4 marks will be deducted in Category 1 question, 1/2 in Category 2 and there is no negative marking in Category 3 questions.
2. Not attempting the question will fetch zero mark.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

Candidates applying for WBJEE 2026 were required to fulfil the eligibility conditions prescribed by the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examinations Board (WBJEEB). The eligibility requirements varied slightly depending on the programme and institute.

Applicant must be a citizen of India OR OCI (subject to the approval of the Competent Authority). OCI candidates will be eligible for only Unreserved seats in All India quota.

Age Limit & Relaxation

For admission to Engineering/Technology and Pharmacy courses, there was no upper age limit, except for specific programmes/institutions where separate age conditions applied. For Marine Engineering, candidates had to be between 17 and 25 years of age as on 31 December 2026.

Note : Candidates with a valid rank/ score in JEE Main are exempted from WBJEE.

Educational Qualification

For admission to Pharmacy courses

1. Candidate must have passed the Qualifying Examination i.e., the ‘10+2’ examination with Physics and Mathematics along with any one of Chemistry / Biotechnology / Biology / Computer Science / Computer Application/Technical Vocational Subject as compulsory subjects with individual pass marks (in both theory and practical wherever applicable) in all the three subjects as stated above in regular class mode.

2. Must have obtained at least 45% marks (40% in case of candidates belonging to reserved category e.g., SC, ST, OBC-A, OBC-B, PwD) in the above three subjects taken together.

3. Must have passed English in the ‘10+2’ examination with at least 30% marks.

4. The Board of the said Qualifying Examination must be recognized by the Central Government or State Government concerned.

For admission to five-Year Degree Course in Architecture

1. As per the norms and standards of the Council of Architecture (COA), No candidate shall be admitted to an architecture course unless she/he has passed an examination at the end of the 10+2 scheme of examination with 50% marks in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics taken together with individual pass marks and also 50% marks in aggregate of the 10+2 level examination.

2. Candidate must also qualify for the NATA (National Aptitude Test in Architecture) conducted by the Council of Architecture (COA), New Delhi. However, further notification in this regard, if any issued by COA/ NTA also may be applied.

For admission to Marine Engineering

1. As per the norms and standards of the Director General of Shipping, Government of India, Candidates must pass Higher Secondary (10+2) Examination of West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education or equivalent examination from a recognized Council/Board in regular class mode with:

Domicile Rules/ Criteria

Unlike other states, there are no strict domicile rules for seeking admission in B.Tech/ B.Pharma/ B.Arch courses through WBJEE. However, there are some important domicile rules that the applicants need to check -

Domicile Rule 1: Candidates aspiring for admission in Government Colleges/ Jadavpur University must be the permanent residents of West Bengal. Students from other states are not eligible for admission in Government Engineering/ Pharmacy colleges located in West Bengal.

Domicile Rule 2: Reservation quota and policies are applicable for West Bengal domicile students only.

Domicile Rule 3: Candidates who have been permanently staying in West Bengal for 10 or more than 10 years are eligible for above-mentioned policies.

IMPORTANT DATES

The WBJEE 2026 notification was released in 6 March 2026, and the online application process started on 10 March 2026. The application deadline was later extended to 8 April 2026. The WBJEE 2026 Admit Card was released on 15 May 2026, while the entrance examination was conducted on 24 May 2026 in offline OMR-based mode. The WBJEE 2026 result and rank card were released on 18 June 2026.

EXAM ANALYSIS

The WBJEE 2026 exam analysis provides an overview of the difficulty level, subject-wise performance, important topics and good attempts. The examination was conducted in two shifts, with Mathematics in the first shift and Physics & Chemistry in the second shift.

The WBJEE 2026 examination was conducted on 24 May 2026. Paper 1 (Mathematics) was held from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, while Paper 2 (Physics & Chemistry) was conducted from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM.

Paper 1 – Mathematics Analysis

Mathematics Section Analysis

The Mathematics paper was comparatively lengthy and required strong conceptual understanding and calculation speed. Questions were asked from Calculus, Algebra, Coordinate Geometry, Vectors and 3D Geometry, Probability and Trigonometry, with several questions requiring multiple steps.

Mathematics Difficulty Level

The Mathematics section was rated Moderate to Difficult. Calculus and Algebra required more time and careful calculation, making time management one of the major challenges for candidates.

Mathematics Good Attempts

A good attempt in Mathematics was estimated at around 55–65 questions out of 75, depending on accuracy and the candidate's preparation level.

Paper 2 – Physics & Chemistry Analysis

Physics Section Analysis

The Physics section included questions from topics such as Electrostatics, Current Electricity, Magnetism, EMI, Semiconductor Electronics, Mechanics, Optics, Modern Physics, Fluid Mechanics and Thermodynamics. The paper required conceptual clarity along with quick application of formulas.

Physics Difficulty Level

Physics was generally rated Easy to Moderate to Moderate, with some sources finding it more conceptual than the previous year. Candidates with strong fundamentals could attempt the section efficiently.

Physics Good Attempts

The estimated good attempts in Physics were around 25–32 questions out of 40, depending on accuracy and individual subject preparation.

Chemistry Section Analysis

The Chemistry section was comparatively more scoring and manageable. Questions covered Organic Chemistry, Physical Chemistry and Inorganic Chemistry, including areas such as reaction mechanisms, thermodynamics, electrochemistry, chemical kinetics, equilibrium, coordination compounds and p-block elements.

Chemistry Difficulty Level

Chemistry was considered Easy to Moderate overall. Many questions were direct or concept-based, while a few Organic Chemistry questions required better understanding of reactions and mechanisms.

Chemistry Good Attempts

The estimated good attempts in Chemistry were around 30–35 questions out of 40. Candidates with strong NCERT-based preparation and good conceptual clarity were able to attempt a higher number of questions.

Overall Difficulty Level

The overall difficulty level of WBJEE 2026 was Easy to Moderate to Moderate-Difficult, depending on the subject. Mathematics was generally the most time-consuming section, while Chemistry was comparatively easier and more scoring.

Overall Good Attempts

Overall good attempts depend on the candidate's accuracy and subject combination. Based on available paper reviews, candidates with strong preparation could attempt approximately 110–125 questions across both papers, while maintaining good accuracy. This is an indicative range and should not be treated as an official cutoff or qualifying benchmark.

Candidates preparing for WBJEE should follow a structured preparation strategy focused on conceptual clarity, regular practice and effective time management. The following tips can help improve preparation:

Understand the Syllabus and Exam Pattern: Go through the complete WBJEE syllabus and understand the paper structure, marking scheme and important topics.

Build Strong Fundamentals: Focus on the basic concepts of Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. Clear conceptual understanding is important for solving numerical and application-based questions.

Follow a Study Schedule: Prepare a realistic daily timetable and divide sufficient time among all three subjects according to your strengths and weaknesses.

Practise Mathematics Regularly: Solve numerical problems every day and focus on speed and accuracy, as Mathematics generally requires extensive calculation practice.

Strengthen Physics Concepts: Study important formulas and concepts and practise numerical questions from different topics regularly.

Revise Chemistry Frequently: Prepare concise notes for important reactions, formulas, concepts and factual information. Regular revision can help improve retention.

Months 1–2: Build Strong Fundamentals
Complete the basic concepts of Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics and cover the important topics from the syllabus. Prepare short notes for formulas, reactions and important concepts.

Months 3–4: Complete the Syllabus and Practise
Finish the remaining syllabus and start solving topic-wise and chapter-wise questions. Practise numerical problems regularly and solve previous years' WBJEE papers to understand the question pattern.

Month 5: Mock Tests and Intensive Practice
Start attempting full-length mock tests regularly. Analyse every test, identify weak topics and work on speed and accuracy. Revise formulas, reactions and important concepts alongside practice.

Month 6: Final Revision

Revise the important concepts and high-priority topics from Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. Focus more on areas where your preparation is weak.

Week 2: Previous Year Papers
Solve previous years' WBJEE papers and practise important numerical and conceptual questions. Analyse incorrect answers and revise the related topics.

Week 3: Mock Tests and Error Analysis
Attempt regular full-length mock tests within the prescribed time. Analyse your performance after every test and revise frequently repeated mistakes and difficult concepts.

Week 4: Final Revision

OVERVIEW

The West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination (WBJEE) is a state-level entrance examination conducted by the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examinations Board (WBJEEB) for admission to undergraduate Engineering & Technology, Pharmacy and Architecture programmes in participating institutions across West Bengal. The WBJEE 2026 examination was conducted in offline OMR-based mode and consisted of Paper 1 (Mathematics) and Paper 2 (Physics and Chemistry). Qualified candidates participate in the centralised counselling process for seat allotment based on their WBJEE rank, category, choices and seat availability. Admission to B.Tech/B.E., B.Pharm and B.Arch programmes is offered through the applicable counselling and admission process, subject to the eligibility and admission rules of the participating institutes.

SELECTION PROCESS

The selection process for WBJEE works in a series of stages that start after the exam and end with final admission: first, the WBJEE board issues rank cards to candidates based on their performance in the Mathematics and Physics-Chemistry papers — this rank determines the merit of each candidate for counselling and seat allotment.

Next, qualified candidates must register online for the WBJEE counselling on the official portal, pay the non-refundable counselling fee, and fill in their choices of colleges and courses in order of preference.

After choice locking, the board conducts seat allotment rounds, typically based on rank, category, preferences and seat availability, releasing results for each round online.

Once a seat is allotted, candidates must accept the seat by paying the acceptance fee and reporting to the reporting centre for document verification.

Some cycles include options for upgradation in subsequent rounds (for a better preferred college/branch) and mop-up/spot rounds for remaining seats. Finally, successful verification leads to formal admission at the allotted institute.
