UPSC IFS Mains 2023: Latest Update
UPSC IFS Annual Calander 2024 has been released on May 5, 2023. The Union Public Service Commission will conduct the CSE prelims exam on 26th May 2024. As per the UPSC Annual Exam Calendar 2024, CSE mains exam will start from 24th November 2024.
UPSC IFS notification 2023 has been released on February 1, 2023. The application process has started and the last date to fill UPSC application form 2023 was February 21, 2023. The Union Public Service Commission will conduct the CSE prelims exam on 28th May 2023. As per the UPSC Annual Exam Calendar 2023, CSE mains exam will start from 15th September 2023.

INDIAN FOREST SERVICE (IFS) MAINS EXAM
The syllabus for IFS Examination is given below:-

OPTIONAL SUBJECTS
Total number of questions in the question papers of optional subjects will be eight. All questions will carry equal marks. Each paper will be divided into two parts, viz. Part A and Part B, each part containing four questions. Out of eight questions, five questions are to be attempted. One question in each part will be compulsory. Candidates will be required to answer three more questions out of the remaining six questions, taking at least one question from each Part. In this way, at least two questions will be attempted from each Part i.e. one compulsory question plus one more.

The Mains / Stage- II Examination will consist three conventional type papers with a duration of three hours and maximum marks of 1400.

The IFS Mains Examination shall be held as an Offline Pen & Paper Based Test. The questions shall be Descriptive in nature (Conventional Type Papers).
INDIAN FOREST SERVICE (IFS): MEDIUM OF EXAMINATION
All question paper must be answered in English. Question Paper will be set in English only.
INDIAN FOREST SERVICE (IFS): MARKING SCHEME
1. Marks will be deducted if the candidate’s handwriting is not clear and easy to read. It is advisable that a candidate maintains orderly, effective, and exact expression combined with due economy of words in all subjects of the examination.
2. Candidates who obtain such minimum qualifying marks in the written part of the Main Examination as may be fixed by the Commission at their discretion, shall be summoned by them for an interview for a Personality Test.
INDIAN FOREST SERVICE (IFS): PERSONALITY TEST
1. The maximum marks for interview 300 marks.
2. The candidates interviewed by a board of competent and unbiased observers. The record of the candidate’s career will be present before the interviewers.
3. The object of the interview is to assess the suitability of the candidate for the service. The candidate is expected to have an all-around personality.
4. Candidates should have an intelligent interest not only in his academics but also should be aware of his cultural, political and social surroundings.
5. Candidates should be aware of current affairs, modern current of thoughts and new discoveries happening around him both within and outside his own State or country.
6.The technique of the interview will not be a strict cross-examination like a question and answer session.
7. It would be more like a natural, though directed and purposive conversation, intended to reveal the personal qualities of the candidate.

UPSC IFS Annual Calander 2024 has been released on May 5, 2023. The Union Public Service Commission will conduct the CSE prelims exam on 26th May 2024. As per the UPSC Annual Exam Calendar 2024, CSE mains exam will start from 24th November 2024.

INDIAN FOREST SERVICE (IFS): EXAM PATTERN
The Mains / Stage- II Examination will consist three conventional type papers with a duration of three hours and maximum marks of 1400.

NOTE 1. Answer scripts of only those candidates who have obtained the minimum marks as decided by the Commission for Paper II (General Knowledge) will be evaluated.
NOTE 2. The standard of papers in General English and General Knowledge will be such as may be expected of a Science or Engineering graduate of an Indian University.
NOTE 3. The scope of optional subjects paper for the examination is broadly of the honours degree level i.e. a level higher than the bachelors degree and lower than the masters degree. In the case of engineering subjects, the level corresponds to the bachelors degree.
INDIAN FOREST SERVICE (IFS): MODE OF EXAMINATION
The IFS Mains Examination shall be held as an Offline Pen & Paper Based Test. The questions shall be Descriptive in nature (Conventional Type Papers).
INDIAN FOREST SERVICE (IFS): MEDIUM OF EXAMINATION
All question paper must be answered in English. Question Paper will be set in English only.
INDIAN FOREST SERVICE (IFS): MARKING SCHEME
1. Marks will be deducted if the candidate’s handwriting is not clear and easy to read. It is advisable that a candidate maintains orderly, effective, and exact expression combined with due economy of words in all subjects of the examination.
2. Candidates who obtain such minimum qualifying marks in the written part of the Main Examination as may be fixed by the Commission at their discretion, shall be summoned by them for an interview for a Personality Test.
INDIAN FOREST SERVICE (IFS): PERSONALITY TEST
1. The maximum marks for interview 300 marks.
2. The candidates interviewed by a board of competent and unbiased observers. The record of the candidate’s career will be present before the interviewers.
3. The object of the interview is to assess the suitability of the candidate for the service. The candidate is expected to have an all-around personality.
4. Candidates should have an intelligent interest not only in his academics but also should be aware of his cultural, political and social surroundings.
5. Candidates should be aware of current affairs, modern current of thoughts and new discoveries happening around him both within and outside his own State or country.
6.The technique of the interview will not be a strict cross-examination like a question and answer session.
7. It would be more like a natural, though directed and purposive conversation, intended to reveal the personal qualities of the candidate.

Note. Only those candidates who have been declared as qualified by the commission in Preliminary/Stage-I Examination are eligible to for Main/Stage- II Examination.
Candidates willing to apply for Indian Forest Service (IFS) Examination are required to fulfill certain conditions to be eligible for it. The candidate who does not satisfy the Eligibility criteria like Age, Minimum educational qualification, etc., their candidature shall be rejected by the authorities. The candidate’s eligibility for Indian Forest Services (IFS) Examination is based on the fulfilment of the following conditions:-

3. Educational Qualifications
4. Medical and Physical Standards
INDIAN FOREST SERVICE (IFS): NATIONALITY
A candidate must be either :-
1. a citizen of India, or
2. a subject of Nepal, or
3. a subject of Bhutan, or
4. a Tibetan refugee who came over to India before 1st January, 1962 with theintention of permanently settling in India, or
5. a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Srilanka, East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia and Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India. Provided that a candidate belonging to categories (2), (3), (4) and (5) shall be a person in whose favour a certificate of eligibility has been issued by the Government of India.
A candidate in whose case a certificate of eligibility is necessary, may be admitted to the examination but the offer of appointment may be given only after the necessary eligibility certificate has been issued to him/her by the Government of India.
INDIAN FOREST SERVICE (IFS): AGE LIMIT & RELAXATIONS
A candidate must have attained the age of 21 years and must not have attained the age of 32 years .
The upper age limit prescribed above will be relaxable:-
1. Upto a maximum of five years if a candidate belongs to a Scheduled Caste or a Scheduled Tribe.
2. Upto a maximum of three years in the case of candidates belonging to Other Backward Classes who are eligible to avail of reservation applicable to such candidates.
3. Upto a maximum of three years in the case of Defence Services personnel disabled in operations during hostilities with any foreign country or in a disturbed area and released as a consequence thereof:
4. Upto a maximum of five years in the case of ex-servicemen including Commissioned Officers and ECOs/SSCOs who have rendered at least five years Military Service and have been released :
(i) on completion of assignment (including those whose assignment is due to be completed within one year) otherwise than by way of dismissal or discharge on account of misconduct or inefficiency, or
(ii) on account of physical disability attributable to Military Service, or
(iii) on involvement.
5. Upto a maximum of five years in the case of ECOs/SSCOs who have completed an initial period of assignment of five years of Military Service and whose assignment has been extended beyond five years and in whose case the Ministry of Defence issues a certificate that they can apply for civil employment and that they will be released on three months' notice on selection from the date of receipt of offer of appointment.
6. Upto a maximum of ten years in the case of Persons with Benchmark Disabilities viz.
(a) low vision;
(b) Partially deaf;
(c) locomotor disability (Sub-category : leprosy cured and acid attack victims only).

A candidate must hold a Bachelor's degree with at least one of the subjects namely Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Science, Botany, Chemistry, Geology, Mathematics, Physics, Statistics and Zoology or a Bachelor's degree in Agriculture, Forestry or in Engineering of Universities incorporated by an Act of the Central or State Legislature in India or other educational institutions established by an Act of Parliament or declared to be deemed as a University under Section 3 of the University Grants Commission Act, 1956, or possess an equivalent qualification.
Number of attempts
The maximum number of attempts restricted for candidates are as follows:
1. General Candidates: 6 attempts
2. Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe Candidates: No restriction
3. Other Backward Classes: 9 attempts
4. Physically handicapped- 9 attempts for General and OBC, while unlimited for SC/ST
Note 1. An attempt at a Preliminary Examination shall be deemed to be an attempt at the Examination.
Note 2. If a candidate actually appears in any one paper in the Preliminary Examination, as a candidate for the Indian Forest Service (Main) Examination, it will be deemed that the candidate has made an attempt at the Examination.
Note 3. Not with standing the disqualification/cancellation of candidature, the fact that appearance of the candidate at the examination will count as an attempt.

The application process involves several steps, such as registering, completing the application form, uploading the required documents, paying the fee, and final submission. Candidates only need to fill out the application form with correct details, otherwise, you are responsible for rejection.
STEPS TO FILL INDIAN FOREST SERVICE (IFS) ONLINE APPLICATION FORM
The application process for UPSC IFS is completely online. The detailed steps are given below to help aspirants register for the exam:
Step-1: Visit the official website of UPSC and find the link to register for UPSC Civil Services. Click on the “apply here” button.
Step-2: Enter all the credentials which you are asked for in the first stage correctly, especially the contact details.
Step-3: Once you have filled up the form, you will be asked to verify the information before final submission. After the final submission, it cannot be changed. Once you submit, your registration ID and password for the UPSC website login will be sent to your registered mail and mobile number.
Step-4: Note these registration ID and password to log in to the website in the future for admit card, results, etc.
Step-5: Using the new login ID, re-login and start filling up the second step of the form. The second step includes all your educational background, category, and preference of the exam centre.
Step-6: You can choose up to 3 exam centers.
Step-7: Make sure all the information provided is correct and true to your knowledge before you finally submit the form in this step as well as they are unchangeable later.
Step-8: In the next part of the form, you have to upload your photo and signature.
Step-9: The last step is to pay the fees.
Step-10: After the fees have been successfully paid, you can download a copy of the application form and keep a print-out. It will be useful later in case there is any dispute with the admit card.

UPSC IFS Annual Calander 2024 has been released on May 5, 2023. The Union Public Service Commission will conduct the CSE prelims exam on 26th May 2024. As per the UPSC Annual Exam Calendar 2024, CSE mains exam will start from 24th November 2024.

UPSC IFS Mains 2023: Who Can Apply
The candidates who qualify for the IFS Preliminary Examination with the required cut-off as decided by the UPSC are eligible for IFS Main Examination. Based on the marks scored in the Preliminary Examination, candidates will be shortlisted, category-wise, to appear in the main examination.
Nationality / Citizenship
To appear for the UPSC IFS exams you need to be a citizen of India, for all other services, you must be either:
(a) A citizen of India,
(b) Or a subject of Nepal,
(c) Or a subject of Bhutan,
(d) Or a refugee from Tibet that came to India before the 1st of January 1962 with the intention of settling in India permanently.
(e) Or an individual with Indian origin who has migrated from Burma, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, East African countries of Uganda, Zambia, Zaire, Kenya, the United Republic of Tanzania, Malawi, Ethiopia, & Vietnam, with the purpose of settling permanently in India.
Note:
(1) If you belong to categories b), c), d), and e), then you’d need a certificate issued by the govt. of India to be eligible.
(2) Also belonging to the b), c), d), and e). Categories will bar you from being eligible to be appointed to the Indian Foreign Services.
Age Limit
As per the IFS age limit eligibility criteria, those between 21 to 32 years, can fill the UPSC IFS application form.

Educational Qualifications:
(i) The candidate must have at least a bachelor’s degree from a recognized university to take the UPSC exam.
(ii) Even those candidates who have written the final year exams of the qualifying exam (bachelor’s degree) and are awaiting results can apply. Also, candidates who would write the final exam are also eligible to apply for the IFS prelims exam. But, these candidates must produce proof of passing the exam while applying for the IFS mains exam.
(iii) In exceptional cases, the UPSC may allow a candidate who does not fall under the aforementioned categories if the candidate has passed an exam conducted by other institutions, the standard of which the UPSC is convinced justifies his/her admission to take the UPSC exam.
(iv) Those candidates with professional/technical qualifications which are recognized by the Government as equivalent to professional/technical degrees are also eligible.
(v) MBBS candidates who have not yet completed their internship by the time of applying for the UPSC Mains will be given a provisional admission to take the mains, provided they submit a copy of the certificate from the concerned University/institution authority that they have passed the requisite final professional medical examination. At the time of the interview, such candidates will have to produce a certificate from the University/institution stating that they have completed all the requirements (including completion of internship) for the award of the medical degree.
Physical Standard
Applicants appearing for the UPSC IFS exam must be physically fit and have a sound mind. After the UPSC CSE personality test selected applicants undergo several medical tests at the medical center notified by the UPSC. Candidates must pass all the medical tests to get admitted to any of the services.

Steps to fill the Part I of the UPSC CSE application form
Step 1: Visit the official website of UPSC
Step 2: Click on the Exam Notifications tab.
Step 3: Click on Apply Online link.
Step 4: Click on the Civil Services Part-I registration.
Step 5: Read the application form instructions carefully and click on Yes.
Step 6: Fill in all basic information in the part-I application form such as Name Date of birth, Category, Gender, Email ID, Contact number, Permanent address, Marital status, Parents’ names, Community, Educational qualification etc.
Step 7: Once all the details are filled in, click on Continue. Check all details in the online form carefully and click on Submit.

UPSC IFS Mains 2023: Scheme of Exam
There will be two qualifying papers mentioned below. It may be noted that marks for the below two papers will not be counted at the time of preparation of the rank list.
a. One of the Indian languages to be selected by the candidate from the languages included in the Eighth Schedule to the constitution.: 300 marks
b. English: 300 marks
The UPSC Mains will comprise nine theory papers (essay descriptive type). Out of the nine papers, only seven will be counted for merit ranking. Candidates also have to choose one optional subject for UPSC Mains. The maximum marks for the UPSC Mains exam are 1750 (7 papers * 250 marks each).

Part A: Indian Languages
Comprehension of given passages, Précis Writing, Usage and Vocabulary, Short Essays, etc.
Part B: English
Comprehension of given passages Précis Writing, Usage and Vocabulary, Translation from English to the Indian Language and vice-versa, etc.
Note 1. The papers on Indian Languages and English will be of Matriculation or equivalent standard and will be of a qualifying nature only. The marks obtained in these papers will not be counted for ranking.
Note 2. The candidates will have to answer the English and Indian Languages papers in English and the respective Indian language (except where the translation is involved).

UPSC IFS Mains 2023: Admission to Examination Centres
1. Candidates must not forget to take their admit card with ID proof and 2 recent colored photographs.
2. No use of electronic items, books, or watches allowed inside the examination hall.
3. Candidates should reach the examination center 1 hour prior to the commencement of the exam.
4. A rough sheet will be provided at the examination hall.
5. Candidates cannot leave the examination center without the conclusion of the UPSC IFS exam.
6. Candidates need to follow all the instructions given by the invigilator.
7. Candidates found with debarred items will be disqualified from the exam.

The important steps related to the UPSC IFS Exam Admit Card download are given below:
Step 1: Visit the official website of UPSC.
Step 2. Click on the Admit Card link available on the Home page of the website.
Step 3. Read the instructions given on the page and click on the Yes button.
Step 4. Select any of the given two options – By Registration ID or By Roll Number.
Step 5. Enter registration ID and date of birth (if ‘By Registration ID’ is selected) or roll number and date of birth (if ‘By Roll Number’ is selected).
Step 6. Click on the Submit button.

Step-2: After landing on the website, scroll down and click on the ”UPSC Civil Services Result”.

UPSC IFS Mains 2023: Mode of Selection
The UPSC IFS selection process is as follows:
1. The first stage of the UPSC CSE exam is Prelims.
2. The candidates who pass the Prelims exam have to appear for the UPSC CSE Mains exam.
3. The UPSC Mains exam is the second stage of the Civil Services Examination.
