EXAM ANALYSIS
The most recent CRPF Constable (Technical & Tradesman) Male/Female recruitment exam was conducted in 2023. The Computer-Based Test (CBT) took place from July 1 to 13, 2023, across multiple centres in India. This was a large-scale recruitment drive for 9,212 vacancies (9,105 male and 107 female), focusing on various trades such as Driver, Mechanic, Cobbler, Carpenter, Tailor, and others. Admit cards were released between June 20 and 25, 2023, and the exam was held in multiple shifts daily to accommodate the high number of candidates.
Exact Dates, Time, and Shift Details
Exam Dates: July 1 to 13, 2023 (initially scheduled as July 1-12, but extended to 13 in some sources). The exam was divided into sessions: the first from July 1-3, and subsequent ones on July 4-5, with the full schedule covering up to July 13.
Shift Details: The CBT was conducted in 2-3 shifts per day, depending on the centre and candidate volume. Typical shifts were:

Duration: Each shift lasted 2 hours (120 minutes).
Results for the CBT were declared on May 18, 2024, with Physical Efficiency Test (PET)/Physical Standard Test (PST) dates announced later in 2024. Final merit lists and cutoffs were released in December 2024.
Difficulty Level Analysis (Based on 2023 Exam)
The overall difficulty of the 2023 CBT was Easy to Moderate, with variations across shifts and sections. Feedback from candidates and experts highlighted:
General Intelligence and Reasoning: Easy to Moderate. Focused on non-verbal patterns, analogies, and logical puzzles. Good attempts: 20-23.

General Knowledge and General Awareness: Moderate. Covered current affairs, history, geography, and static GK. Questions on sports, awards, and polity were common. Good attempts: 18-22.
Elementary Mathematics: Easy to Moderate. Included arithmetic, number systems, percentages, and basic algebra. Time-consuming for some. Good attempts: 19-23.
English/Hindi: Easy. Emphasised comprehension, grammar, vocabulary, and basic language skills. Good attempts: 20-24.
Overall good attempts: 75-85 out of 100, depending on the shift. The exam was balanced, with no major surprises, but math and GK required quick recall.
Cutoff Marks (2023 Cycle)
Cutoffs were normalised and varied by trade, category, and state. They were released post-CBT and reflected the final merit after all stages. Here’s a summary for key trades (marks out of 100):
Trade/Post | UR | OBC | SC | ST | EWS |
Driver (Male) | 80-85 | 78-82 | 72-76 | 70-74 | 76-80 |
Mechanic | 75-80 | 72-78 | 68-72 | 65-70 | 72-76 |
Cook/Water Carrier | 70-75 | 68-72 | 62-68 | 60-65 | 68-72 |
Tailor/Barber | 70-75 | 68-72 | 62-68 | 60-65 | 68-72 |
Bugler/Brass Band | 65-70 | 62-68 | 58-62 | 55-60 | 62-66 |
Lowest Cutoffs: Around 24-32 for reserved categories in niche trades like Bugler or Carpenter.
Highest Cutoffs: Up to 92 in specialised Pioneer Wing posts like Electrician.
Factors Influencing Cutoffs: High competition in states like Bihar and Uttar Pradesh led to higher marks; lower in the northeastern states. Ex-servicemen had relaxed cutoffs (e.g., 74-88 in some trades).
Expectations for the 2026 Exam
Based on trends from 2023 and recent cycles (including 2024-2025 notifications), the 2026 exam is likely to follow a similar structure with no significant pattern changes. Key insights:
Tentative Dates: Applications may open in December 2025 or early 2026, with CBT expected in February-April 2026. Physical tests could follow in mid-2026.
Pattern and Difficulty: Expected to remain the same—100 questions, 2 hours, Matriculation level, Easy-Moderate difficulty. Potential minor tweaks in question distribution, but no confirmed changes.
Cutoffs: Likely 5-10% higher than 2023 due to increasing competition, especially for UR/OBC (e.g., 75-85 for popular trades). Reserved categories may see stable or slightly relaxed marks.
Other Expectations: Increased focus on current affairs in GK; emphasis on normalization for fairness across shifts. Vacancies could be around 8,000-10,000, similar to 2023. Candidates should prepare for PET/PST early, as qualifying the CBT is just the first hurdle.
