SSC JE Paper I (2025)
The Staff Selection Commission conducted the SSC JE Paper I exam for the 2025 cycle from 3rd to 6th December 2025. This stage was held in Computer Based Test (CBT) mode for candidates across Civil, Mechanical, and Electrical engineering disciplines.
Shift Timings for Paper I (2025)
The exam was conducted in three shifts each day to accommodate all applicants, and the structure was as follows:
Shift 1
Reporting time: around 7:30 AM
Exam timing: 9:00 AM – 11:00 AM
Shift 2
Reporting time: around 11:30 AM
Exam timing: 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM
Shift 3
Reporting time: around 3:30 PM
Exam timing: 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM
Each shift was 2 hours long, and candidates were required to report early to complete entry formalities and documentation.
The admit cards with exact shift details and exam centre information were released on the SSC official website a few days before the exam.
Paper I – Pattern & Difficulty (2025)
Mode of Exam: Computer Based Test (CBT)
Duration: 2 hours
Type: Objective Multiple Choice Questions
Paper I generally included questions on:
General Intelligence and Reasoning
General Awareness
General Engineering (Civil / Mechanical / Electrical) based on the candidate’s discipline
The paper tested basic engineering fundamentals along with reasoning and general awareness. Most coaching sources and student reviews described the 2025 Paper I as moderate in difficulty, with a balanced mix of conceptual and application-based questions. (Student feedback patterns are reflected in several analysis posts online and coaching previews even though official difficulty ratings are not published by SSC.)
The answer key and question paper review for Paper I were released after the exam, and candidates could raise objections if needed.
SSC JE Paper II (2026 Cycle for 2025 Exam)
Expected Exam Window
For the 2025 exam cycle, Paper II was expected to be conducted in January and February 2026, although the exact dates were not fixed at the time of initial notification. This paper normally follows Paper I results and is scheduled a few months later.
Pattern & Timing for Paper II
Paper II is also conducted in CBT mode and has a longer duration than Paper I, typically 2 hours. It focuses on technical and in-depth engineering knowledge in the candidate’s chosen branch (Civil, Mechanical, or Electrical), and the questions are more detailed and discipline specific.
Exact shift and timing details for Paper II are published on the SSC admit card just before the exam. Based on the previous cycle and tentative calendars, Paper II may also be held in multiple shifts similar to Paper I to manage large candidate numbers.
Key Takeaways from Recent Cycle
1. Multi-shift Arrangement
SSC JE Paper I was held across multiple shifts over several days, allowing all candidates to take the exam under CBT conditions.
2. Consistent Shift Timings
The three-shift structure (morning, afternoon, evening) was consistently followed, and each shift was 2 hours in duration.
3. Pattern Stability
Both Paper I and Paper II have remained in CBT mode with objective questions, though Paper II is more detailed and longer than Paper I.
4. Paper II Timing
The 2025 Paper II was tentatively scheduled for January–February 2026, maintaining the trend of a few months gap between stages.
Expectations for SSC JE 2026
Notification & Application: The SSC JE 2026 notification is expected to be released in March 2026 with online applications open from March to April 2026. (Tentative based on calendar trends.)
Paper I Exam Window (2026): Paper I is expected between May and July 2026, likely conducted over several days with multiple shifts each day.
Paper II Exam Window (2026): Paper II will likely be scheduled a few months after Paper I results, tentatively late 2026.
Shift Details: Similar to the 2025 cycle, the exam may be conducted in three shifts across days, in the morning, afternoon, and evening.
Pattern Trends to Expect
Two papers in CBT mode – Paper I and Paper II.
Paper I at the start of the exam cycle, lasting 2 hours, with general and basic engineering questions.
Paper II later in the calendar year, longer and technical, focusing on core engineering stream.
Shift system for both papers to manage large candidate volumes.
Answer keys and response sheets released after Paper I for transparency.
What Candidates Should Focus On
Time management within each 2-hour shift.
evision of all core engineering subjects before Paper I.
n-depth technical preparation for Paper II in the chosen discipline.
Understanding of exam pattern and instruction details issued via admit card.

Shift Details: Similar to the 2025 cycle, the exam may be conducted in three shifts across days, in the morning, afternoon, and evening.

evision of all core engineering subjects before Paper I.
n-depth technical preparation for Paper II in the chosen discipline.
Understanding of exam pattern and instruction details issued via admit card.
Study Tips
STUDY TIPS
To crack the SSC JE exam, follow a structured preparation strategy by mastering technical fundamentals, practicing regularly with previous year questions (PYQs), and improving time management through mock tests. Allocate 3–4 hours daily for technical subjects, 1–2 hours for reasoning, and 1 hour for General Awareness, while focusing on high-weightage topics for better results.
1- Choose a suitable place to study: It is very important to choose a suitable and quiet place to study. The place of study should be such that one can sit and study with complete concentration and a calm mind. If the house is small or there is no suitable place in the house, then it would be better to go outside the house to some quiet place, a friend's house or a library and study.
2- Make a time table: By making a time table, you will be able to complete your syllabus on time.
3- Test and evaluate yourself: Find your mistakes and correct them and keep evaluating yourself from time to time.
4- Take a short break in between studies: Your mind gets tired while studying. Whenever you feel tired, take a short break. Generally, while studying, you should take a short break after 30 to 40 minutes.
5- Underline/Highlight the main points: While studying a topic, underline/highlight the points that you think are important and may be asked in the exam. This habit will help you save time during revision.
6- Wake up early in the morning: If you want to study for a longer time and want to make the most of your day, then try to wake up between 4:00 and 5:00 in the morning, only then will you be able to achieve your target.
7- Keep the body healthy: A healthy mind resides in a healthy body, so go for a walk in the morning and exercise. The healthier your body is, the more active and confident you will be.
