SSC CGL Tier-II Detailed Exam Analysis (Based on 2025 Paper)
Overall Structure & Difficulty
In the 2025 SSC CGL Tier-2 examination:
Paper-I (Quantitative Ability + Reasoning + English + General Awareness + Computer Knowledge) was moderate to difficult, requiring a combination of speed, accuracy, and strategy.
Quantitative Ability was calculation-intensive and often time-consuming.
English & Comprehension were moderate but had longer passages.
General Awareness leaned more on current affairs and static GK — making it comparatively unpredictable.
Computer Knowledge included basic to moderate questions on MS Office, hardware, networking, etc. Prepp+1
Section-Wise Insights
1. Mathematical / Quantitative Ability
Questions were moderate to challenging, emphasizing arithmetic, algebra, geometry, mensuration, and trigonometry.
Data interpretation and number system questions were present and required careful reading.
Many questions tested conceptual understanding and application, not just formula recall.
Good attempt range for this section was generally lower due to its time-intensive nature.
2. Reasoning & General Intelligence
Reasoning was typically moderate.
Topics included analytical puzzles, coding-decoding, seating arrangement, analogies, and series.
This section was more straightforward compared to Quant and helped boost attempt count for many candidates.
3. English Language & Comprehension
English in Tier-2 was more difficult than Tier-1:
Longer reading comprehensions, inference-based questions
Grammar topics like error spotting, clause selection, fill in the blanks, para jumbles, etc.
Many aspirants found RCs lengthy and time-consuming, pushing them to attempt other sections first.
Good preparation in vocabulary, grammar rules, and reading speed was key.
4. General Awareness / GK
This section was reported as moderate to difficult because of unpredictable static GK and current affairs combined.
Questions ranged from awards, history, geography, science developments, to economics and polity.
Aspirants doing only current affairs from 6–12 months had an edge, but static GK also played a major role.
5. Computer Knowledge
This part included basic questions on:
MS Office tools and shortcuts
Basic hardware, software, and networking
Internet and network fundamentals
Many candidates underestimated this section, but it helped add safe marks if prepared.
Scoring and Strategy from 2025 Experience
Marks per question: +3 for correct answer, -1 negative marking for wrong answers in most sections.
Candidates were generally advised to aim for 200+ marks in Paper-I to stay competitive.
Accuracy and smart selection of questions were important — attempting fewer questions with high accuracy often scored better than attempting many with low accuracy.
What Aspirants Reported (Real Exam Feel)
Quant was calculative and moderate to difficult — time management was critical.
Reasoning was relatively easier and good for secure attempts.
English had complex reading comprehensions; grammar rules were tested deeply.
General Awareness was tricky and demanded broad reading (history, polity, economics, science).
Computer Knowledge was manageable if basics were clear.
Some aspirants noted that Tier-2 tests endurance and decision-making due to the length and number of questions.
Estimated Good Attempts & Cutoff Trends
While exact numbers vary year to year based on difficulty and normalization, previous analysis showed:
Safe total attempts across all sections for a competitive score: 65–75 attempts with high accuracy.
Higher scores (above **220+) increased chances for selective posts.
Lower scores could still lead to qualification if accuracy and rank were strong.
LATEST UPDATE 2026
The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) has announced the schedule for the SSC Combined Graduate Level (CGL) Examination 2025–26. Tier 1 was conducted in September 2025, while Tier 2 is scheduled for 18–19 January 2026, and Tier 3 and Tier 4 will be conducted later for eligible posts. SSC CGL is a national-level recruitment examination for Group B and C posts in various central government ministries, departments, and organisations. STUDY TIPS
1. Understand the Exam Structure Clearly
Before starting preparation, understand that SSC CGL has Tier-I (qualifying + scoring) and Tier-II (main ranking stage). Tier-I tests speed and accuracy, while Tier-II demands deep conceptual clarity, especially in Maths and English. Your preparation must gradually shift from coverage - practice - accuracy - speed.
2. Focus on High-Weightage Topics
Do not try to study everything equally. Identify frequently asked topics:
Maths: Percentage, Ratio, Average, Time & Work, Algebra basics
Reasoning: Series, Coding-Decoding, Analogy, Syllogism
English: Error spotting, vocabulary, comprehension
GA: Static GK + last 6–8 months current affairs
This ensures maximum return on effort.
3. Build Strong Basics First
Many candidates fail because they jump directly to mock tests. Spend the first phase strengthening fundamentals. If basics are clear, difficult questions also become manageable, especially in Tier-II Maths and English.
4. Practice Daily with Time Limits
SSC is not about knowledge alone; it is about speed with accuracy. Always practice questions with a timer. Even while studying theory, solve examples immediately to reinforce learning.
5. Make Short Notes for Revision
Prepare handwritten short notes for:
Maths formulas
Grammar rules
Vocabulary
Static GK facts
These notes are extremely helpful during the final revision stage.
6. Mock Tests and Analysis Are Mandatory
Mock tests are useless without analysis. After every mock:
Identify weak areas
Note repeated mistakes
Revise concepts before taking the next test
This habit alone can improve marks by 20–30 points.
7. Accuracy Over Attempts
Due to negative marking, random guessing reduces final scores. Train yourself to attempt questions you are confident about. Accuracy above 85 percent is ideal.
8. Consistency Is More Important Than Long Hours
Studying 4–6 focused hours daily for months is far better than irregular long sessions. SSC preparation rewards discipline and repetition.
