EXAM PATTERN

KCET Examination will be held as an Objective Type Offline Pen & Paper based Test. Question paper will contain a total of 180 Questions and 180 Marks, being 1 mark for each question. The total duration of the examination will be 240 Minutes. The Section-wise distribution of Questions and Marks is given below:

Medium of Examination

Question Paper for KCET Examination will be available in English & Kannada.

Marking Scheme

1. One mark will be allotted for each correct answer.

Along with the official notification, the Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) has announced the KCET 2026 exam dates. According to the released schedule, the Karnataka Common Entrance Test (KCET) 2026 will be conducted on 23 April and 24 April 2026. Candidates are advised to carefully check the official notification on the KEA website for detailed and updated exam schedule information.

EXAM ANALYSIS

The Karnataka Common Entrance Test (KCET) 2026 was conducted by the Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) on 23 and 24 April 2026 in offline, OMR-based mode. Physics and Chemistry were conducted on 23 April, while Mathematics and Biology were conducted on 24 April. Each subject contained 60 objective-type questions, carried 60 marks, and had a duration of 80 minutes. There was no negative marking for incorrect answers.

The Kannada Language Test for eligible Horanadu and Gadinadu Kannadiga candidates was conducted separately on 22 April 2026.

Exam Pattern

For Engineering/Technology, candidates appeared for Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics (PCM), with 60 questions and 60 marks per subject, making the total 180 questions and 180 marks. Candidates seeking admission through Biology-related streams appeared for the applicable Physics, Chemistry and Biology (PCB) combination. Each correct answer carried 1 mark, and there was no negative marking.

Overall Difficulty Level

The overall KCET 2026 paper was assessed as Moderate, although difficulty varied by subject. Physics was Moderate to Difficult, Chemistry ranged from Moderate to Difficult, Mathematics was Moderate to Moderate-Difficult and relatively lengthy, while Biology was Easy to Moderate and comparatively scoring. The paper included a mixture of direct, conceptual, factual and numerical questions, with a noticeable emphasis on II PUC/Class 12 topics.

Physics Analysis

The Physics paper was generally considered Moderate to Difficult. It contained a mixture of conceptual and numerical questions, with candidates reporting that some calculations were time-consuming. Important areas included Mechanics, Current Electricity, Modern Physics, Optics, Thermodynamics, Electromagnetic Induction, Alternating Current, Waves and Oscillations. Modern Physics and some numerical-based questions were among the comparatively challenging areas.

Chemistry Analysis

The Chemistry paper was reported as Moderate to Difficult by several analyses. The paper contained direct NCERT/PUC-based questions along with conceptual and statement-based questions. Organic Chemistry had significant representation, while Physical Chemistry included some calculation-based questions. Inorganic Chemistry covered areas such as Chemical Bonding, Coordination Compounds and Periodicity.

Major Areas: Organic Chemistry, Physical Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, Chemical Bonding, Coordination Compounds, Kinetics, Thermodynamics and Electrochemistry

Mathematics Analysis

The Mathematics paper was considered Moderate to Moderate-Difficult. Although many questions were based on standard concepts and formulas, several questions were lengthy and calculation-intensive, making time management important. Major areas included Calculus, Algebra, Matrices and Determinants, Probability, Coordinate Geometry, Vectors, 3D Geometry, Differential Equations, Statistics and Trigonometry.

Difficulty: Moderate to Moderate-Difficult
Good Attempts: Around 40–45+ questions was considered a reasonable attempt range in some post-exam analyses.
Major Areas: Calculus, Algebra, Coordinate Geometry, Probability, Vectors, 3D Geometry and Matrices & Determinants

Biology Analysis

The Biology paper was comparatively Easy to Moderate and was considered one of the more scoring sections. Questions were largely NCERT/PUC-oriented, combining factual, conceptual and some diagram/application-based questions. Important areas included Human Physiology, Genetics and Evolution, Plant Physiology, Ecology and Environment, Cell Biology and Biotechnology.

Difficulty: Easy to Moderate
Major Areas: Genetics, Human Physiology, Plant Physiology, Ecology, Environment, Cell Biology and Biotechnology

Overall Analysis

Overall, KCET 2026 was a Moderate-level examination. Physics and Chemistry were relatively more challenging, Mathematics was lengthy and moderately difficult, and Biology was comparatively easy to moderate and scoring. The examination remained largely within the prescribed PUC syllabus, with II PUC/Class 12 topics receiving substantial weightage. Since there was no negative marking, speed, question selection and maximum attempts were important factors.

OVERVIEW

The Karnataka Common Entrance Test (KCET), commonly known as KEA UGCET, is a state-level entrance examination conducted by the Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) for admission to various undergraduate professional courses in Karnataka. KCET is primarily conducted for admission to courses such as Engineering/Technology, Bachelor of Pharmacy (B.Pharm), Diploma in Pharmacy (D.Pharm), Agriculture/Farm Science and Veterinary courses, along with other programmes as specified by KEA. The examination provides eligible candidates with an opportunity to secure admission to participating government, university, private aided and private unaided institutions in Karnataka based on their merit, eligibility and counselling preferences.

SELECTION PROCESS

1. KCET Application & Examination

Candidates must first register online and appear for the KCET 2026 examination conducted by the Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA).

2. Result Declaration & Rank List

After the exam, KEA releases the KCET results and rank list. Rankings are prepared based on KCET scores (along with qualifying examination criteria as prescribed).

3. Document Verification

Qualified candidates must participate in document verification, either online or at designated KEA centres, to confirm eligibility, category, and reservation claims.

4. Online Counselling (Option Entry)

Candidates who complete verification can enter their preferred colleges and courses through the online counselling portal.

5. Seat Allotment
