UPSC INDIAN POST & TELECOMMUNICATION ACCOUNTS & FINANCE SERVICE (IP & TAFS) 2021

Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) India conducts the Indian Post & Telecommunication Accounts and Finance Service (IP&TAFS), a civil service or competitive test in India.

The exam is for Department of Telecom and Department of Posts recruitment in India. The Indian Post and Telecommunication Accounts and Finance Service is part of the Union of India's Group "A" Central Civil Services.

UPSC IP & TAFS 2021 : EXAM PATTERN

The preliminary examination for IP & TAFS Examination is divided into two Papers. The first paper contains 100 questions of total 200 marks from General Studies. The second paper contains 80 questions of total 200 marks from Civil Service Aptitude Test. 

The section-wise distribution of Questions and Marks is given below :-

There will be negative marking for incorrect answers, as detailed below :-

1. There are four alternatives for the answers to every question. For each question for which a wrong answer has been given by the candidate, one-third of the marks assigned to that question will be deducted as penalty.
2. If a candidate gives more than one answer, it will be treated as a wrong answer even if one of the given answers happen to be correct and there will be the same penalty as above for that question.
3.  If a question is left blank i.e. no answer is given by the candidate, there will be no penalty for that question.

UPSC IP & TAFS 2021 : IMPORTANT FACTS

1. The Preliminary Examination will be held in two papers of total 400 marks.
2. For each paper, 120 minutes will be allotted
3. Only those candidates who are declared by  the Commission  to have qualified in  the Preliminary/ Stage-I Examination in  the year will be eligible for admission to the Main/ Stage-II Examination of that year provided they are otherwise eligible for admission to the Main/ Stage-II  Examination.
4. The question paper will be set both in Hindi & English.
5. For each question for which a wrong answer has been given by the candidate, one-third of the marks assigned to that question will be deducted as penalty

Note :- The General Studies Paper-II of the Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination will be a qualifying paper with minimum qualifying marks fixed at 33%.

The Preliminary examination for  IP & TAFS will be held as an Offline Pen & Paper Based Examination. It will contain objective type questions.

Candidates willing to apply for IP & TAFS 2021 Examination are required to fulfil certain conditions to be eligible for it. The candidate who does not satisfy the Eligibility criteria like Age, Minimum educational qualification etc., their candidature shall be rejected by the authorities.
The criteria for eligibility IP & TAFS 2021 are decided by the conduction body itself.

The candidate’s eligibility for IP & TAFS 2021 Examination is based on the fulfilment of the following conditions :-

UPSC IP & TAFS 2021 : NATIONALITY

A candidate must be either:—

1. a citizen of India, or
2. a subject of Nepal, or
3. a subject of Bhutan, or
4. a Tibetan refugee who came over to India before 1st January 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India, or
5. a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia and Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India.

Provided that a candidate belonging to categories (2), (3), (4) and (5) shall be a person in whose favour a certificate of eligibility has been issued by the Government of India.

A candidate in whose case a certificate of eligibility is necessary, may be admitted to the examination, but the offer of appointment may be given only after the necessary eligibility certificate has been issued to him/her by the Government of India.

UPSC IP & TAFS 2021 : AGE LIMIT & RELAXATIONS

A candidate must have attained the age of 21 years and must not have attained the age of 32 years on the 1st of August 2020 i.e., he/she must have been born not earlier than 2nd August 1988 and not later than 1st August 1999

UPSC IP & TAFS 2021 : EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

1. The candidate must hold a Bachelor's Degree from any of the recognized universities.
2. Candidates who have appeared or to appear for the qualifying examination and are awaiting results can also apply. 
3. Candidates with professional and technical qualifications recognized by the Government or its equivalent are also eligible to apply.
4. Candidates who have passed the final year of MBBS or any Medical Examination but are yet to complete the internship will be provisionally admitted to the Examination Main

UPSC IP & TAFS 2021 : PHYSICAL STANDARDS

Candidates must be physically fit according to physical standards for admission to Civil Services Examination, 2020 as per guideline for Examination published in the Gazette of India Extraordinary dated 12th February 2020.

UPSC IP & TAFS 2021 : NUMBER OF ATTEMPTS

The maximum number of attempts is as follows:

1. General Category Candidates: 6 attempts
2. Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe (SC/ST) candidates: No restriction
3. Other Backward Class candidates: 9 attempts

Note :- 

1. An attempt at a Preliminary Examination shall be deemed to be an attempt at the Civil Services Examination
2. If a candidate actually appears in any one paper in the Preliminary Examination, he/she shall be deemed to have made an attempt at the Examination
3. Notwithstanding the disqualification/cancellation of candidature, the fact of appearance of the candidate at the examination will count as an attempt.

UPSC IP & TAFS 2021 : ELIGIBILITY HIGHLIGHTS

1. The candidate must be a citizen of India or Nepal or Bhutan to get eligible for UPSC IP & TAFS.re
2. The candidate must be atleast 21 years of age, but should not be above 32 years.
3. The candidate should possess a minimum of graduation degree from a recognised university.
4. Candidates must be physically fit.
5. There is a maximum limit of attempts prescribed for each category of candidates.
6. Candidates belonging to SC/ST have no limit of maximum number of attempts.

UPSC INDIAN POST & TELECOMMUNICATION ACCOUNTS & FINANCE SERVICE (IP & TAFS) 2021

The notification for UPSC IP & TAFS 2021 Examination was released by UPSC on 4th March 2021. The online registration lasted till 24th March 2021.

The preliminary examination was scheduled to be held on  27th June 2021 but has been postponed due to COVID-19 outbreak in the country. The examination will now be held on 10th October 2021.  

As per UPSC Revised Annual calendar, The Mains Examination for IP & TAFS 2021 has also been postponed and now has been scheduled to commence on 07th January 2022. The examination process will be completed in 5 days time.

UPSC conducted the Preliminary Examination for IP & TAFS 2020 through Civil Services Preliminary examination 2020 on 4th October 2020.

PAPER - I GENERAL STUDIES

The General Studies paper consists of questions across topics like Current Affairs, Polity, History, etc. The maximum weightage was Geography. Mixed/overlapping questions were asked more. Overall, the General Studies Paper was Moderate to Difficult.

PAPER-II: CIVIL SERVICES APTITUDE TEST

CSAT paper is qualifying in nature, i.e. it is mandatory to score 33% marks in this paper. The score of this paper does not decide your merit ranking. Maximum Weightage was given to Comprehension & Basic Numeracy. Overall, CSAT paper was moderate.

OVERALL ANALYSIS

MAJOR HIGHLIGHTS

1. Paper -I Key subjects were Geography & History.
2. Paper -II Key subjects were Comprehension & Logical reasoning and analytical ability
3. Current affairs questions were lower, as compared to previous years.
4. Paper-II of the Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination will be a qualifying paper with minimum qualifying marks fixed at 33%.
5. Overall, the difficulty level of Preliminary Examination of IP & TAFS Examination is Moderate to Difficult.
