2. Exact Date, Time & Shift Details (Stage-II – 2026)
RRB conducts Stage-II CBT in multiple shifts per day (just like Stage-I) to accommodate large numbers of candidates.
Candidates were required to report early for biometric and document verification.
Final reporting and exact timings varied by regional RRB zone and were printed on the candidate’s admit card.
3. Exam Pattern – RRB ALP Stage-II CBT (2026)
The Stage-II CBT (also referred to as CBT-2) tests deeper technical knowledge and job-related concepts compared to Stage-1.
General Pattern:
Total Questions: 100
Total Marks: 100
Duration: 90 minutes
Mode: Computer-Based Test (CBT)
Negative Marking: 1/3 mark for every incorrect answer
The technical knowledge portion is specific to the Loco Pilot domain and tests basic electrical/ mechanical/ railway operational knowledge relevant to the ALP job role.
Exact sectional weightage can vary slightly by RRB zone.
4. Difficulty Level – Based on Last Exam
Feedback and shift-wise analyses from coaching sources and student reviews of the 2026 Stage-II CBT indicate:
Section-Wise Difficulty:
Mathematics
Generally Moderate
Focused on arithmetic, algebra, speed topics
General Intelligence & Reasoning
Easy to moderate
Mostly logical reasoning, puzzles, sequence, analogy
Basic Science
Moderate
Fundamental physics/chemistry concepts at 10th level
Trade/Technical Knowledge
Moderate to slightly Tough
Requires understanding of technical terms and basic railway systems
Overall Difficulty:
Moderate, with Technical/Trade section remaining the key differentiator — candidates strong in domain concepts tend to score higher.
5. Expected Cut-Offs – Stage-II (2026)
Cut-offs depend on overall performance, difficulty level, reservation category and normalisation.
Approximate Cut-Off Ranges (Indicative):
Category | Expected Cut-Off (Stage-II) |
UR (General) | 55–65 |
OBC | 48–58 |
SC | 40–50 |
ST | 38–48 |
These ranges are indicative and expected based on past cycles and student responses.
Official cut-offs are released later, along with result notifications by the respective RRB zones.
What This Means for RRB ALP Stage-II 2026 Aspirants
Preparation Strategy:
Focus on deeper understanding of technical concepts relevant to ALP job role.
Regular practice of reasoning quizzes, maths problems, and basic science topics.
Solve past papers and sectional tests for better time management.
Difficulty Expectations:
Mathematics, reasoning and science sections stay mostly predictable and manageable.
The trade/technical knowledge section determines ranking in the merit list.
Time Management:
Attempt the easy and scoring sections first (Reasoning & Science).
Allocate sufficient time to technical questions without over-worrying about time pressure.

OVERVIEW
Railway recruitment board (RRB) conducts RRB ALP exam to recruit Assistant Loco Pilot for different railway zones across the country. Railway Recruitment Control Board is a government organisation in India. It was set up in 1998 in the Ministry of Railways (Railway Board), New Delhi. Railway Recruitment Boards are organisations under the Government of India that manage the appointment of new employees to work in Indian railways.

SELECTION PROCESS
The RRB ALP Selection Process is extensive and involves four main stages, beginning with two online exams: CBT I and CBT II. Candidates who clear both will proceed to the CBAT. Below is a detailed overview of each stage:
First Stage – CBT I
CBT I is a screening test designed to shortlist candidates for the next round. It consists of 75 multiple-choice questions from Mathematics, General Intelligence, General Science, and General Awareness, with a total duration of 60 minutes. A negative marking of 1/3rd is applied for every incorrect answer.
Scores from CBT I are not counted in the final merit list. Shortlisting is done RRB-wise and community-wise based on normalized scores.
Second Stage – CBT II
CBT II is divided into two parts:
Part A: Contains 100 questions to be attempted in 90 minutes. It covers Mathematics, General Intelligence and Reasoning, and Basic Science & Engineering. Marks from Part A are considered in the final merit calculation.
Part B: Has 75 questions to be completed in 60 minutes. It is qualifying in nature and focuses on trade-specific knowledge. Candidates must pass Part B and secure the minimum cut-off in Part A to advance.
Approximately 15 times the number of vacancies are shortlisted from CBT II. Negative marking is applicable, and normalization is used for multi-shift exams.
Computer-Based Aptitude Test (CBAT)
CBAT is conducted for candidates who qualify in CBT II Part A, typically 8 times the number of available vacancies. This test assesses the aptitude required for Assistant Loco Pilot roles and consists of multiple sections. There is no negative marking, but candidates must qualify in each section separately.
The test is available only in English and Hindi, and a vision certificate is required to appear for this stage. The final merit list is prepared using a 70:30 weightage for CBT II Part A and CBAT scores, respectively.
Document Verification
Candidates who pass the CBAT are called for Document Verification based on merit. They must present original documents for verification of age, educational qualifications, caste/category, reservation claims, etc. Copies of these documents also need to be submitted. All documents must be valid and consistent with the details provided in the application. Any discrepancies or invalid documents may result in disqualification.
Medical Examination
After DV, candidates must undergo a medical fitness test as per Railway standards. This includes checks for vision, physical health, and other medical requirements based on the ALP role. Only candidates who meet the prescribed medical criteria are considered fit for appointment. The final decision on fitness rests with the Railway Administration.
