The Design Aptitude Tests will be conducted in two stages:

NID DAT UG EXAM
Candidates willing to apply for NID DAT Examination are required to fulfill certain conditions to be eligible for it. The candidate who does not satisfy the Eligibility criteria like Age, Minimum educational qualification, etc., their candidature shall be rejected by the authorities. The criteria for eligibility for NID DAT are decided by the conduction body itself. The candidate’s eligibility for NID DAT Examination is based on the fulfillment of the following conditions:-

NID DAT UG EXAM AGE LIMIT & RELAXATIONS
1. For Indian Nationals in General Category and General EWS Category: Only those candidates born on or after 1 July 2003 are eligible to apply for admission.
2. For Indian Nationals in Reserved Category (Other Backward Class-Non Creamy Layer (OBC-NCL), Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST) : Only those candidates born on or after 1 July 2000 are eligible to apply for admission.
3. For Indian Nationals in PwD Reserved Category: Only those candidates born on or after 1 July 1998 are eligible to apply for admission.

NID DAT UG EXAM EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
Candidates who have passed or will appear for higher secondary (10+2) qualifying examinations in any stream (Science, Arts, Commerce, Humanities etc.) from any recognised board of education such as CBSE, IB, ICSE or equivalent.
Important Note
1. Candidates must have passed their Class XII examination (higher secondary (10+2)) or equivalent at the time of document scruitiny/in-person counseling.
2. Candidates who have not passed their final board exam or equivalent before the document scrutiny/in-person counseling will not be eligible for admission.
Examinations considered equivalent to these are as follows
1. Final examination of the 10+2 system under a central or state board recognised by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU).
2. Intermediate or two-year pre-university examination under a board or university recognised by the Association of Indian Universities.
3. Final examination of the two-year course of the Joint Services Wing of the National Defence Academy.
4. Senior secondary school examination under the National Institute of Open Schooling, with a minimum of five subjects.
5. Any public school, board or university examination completed in India or in any foreign country recognised as equivalent to the 10+2 system by the Association of Indian Universities.
6. H.S.C. vocational examination.
7. General Certificate Education (GCE) examination at the Advanced (A) level taken in London, Cambridge or Sri Lanka.
8. Candidates who have completed final examinations for class XII (or equivalent) outside India or from a board not specified above should produce an equivalence certificate from the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) confirming that the examination they have passed is equivalent to the Class XII examination conducted in India. The certificate is required to be submitted at the time of document verification.
Overseas Category (Supernumerary) candidates
Foreign citizens - applicants holding citizenship of a country other than the Republic of India—are eligible to apply only under the overseas (supernumerary) category.
In addition to the seats available for the B.Des. programme, an additional 15% supernumerary seats have been available for overseas applicants. The number of seats available under Overseas (supernumerary) category are as below:

Questions Asked in Objective Section
As per the feedback from students, the Logical Reasoning or Aptitude section was a bit easy, the General Knowledge section was easy to moderate while the diagram or pictorial section was moderate but tricky. All the questions in the pictorial section were lengthy and students had to manage their time wisely to complete the entire paper on time. The overall exam was doable and manageable. In the GK section, the questions were related to Padma Shree Awards and vaccines.
Questions Asked in Drawing/Subjective Section
For NID DAT 2022 Prelims B.Des admission, the pictorial section had a total of 4 questions with 15 marks each. One question of NID DAT Prelims, Section B was perspective-based. Further, students were asked to assemble a dismantled cycle through their drawing skills. Students also had to draw a story of a Kingfisher through 3 slides. They had to pick an appropriate title and describe the entire story after drawing it carefully on the paper.

NID DAT UG 2024: Who can apply
Age Limit & Relaxations
1. For Indian Nationals in General Category and General EWS Category: Only those candidates born on or after 1 July 2003 are eligible to apply for admission.
2. For Indian Nationals in Reserved Category (Other Backward Class-Non Creamy Layer (OBC-NCL), Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST): Only those candidates born on or after 1 July 2000 are eligible to apply for admission.
3. For Indian Nationals in PwD Reserved Category: Only those candidates born on or after 1 July 1998 are eligible to apply for admission.
4. For Foreign Nationals in Overseas (Supernumerary) Category: Only those candidates born on or after 1 July 2003 are eligible to apply for admission.
Educational Qualifications
Candidates who have passed or will appear for higher secondary (10+2) qualifying examinations in any stream (Science, Arts, Commerce, Humanities etc.) from any recognised board of education such as CBSE, IB, ICSE or equivalent.
Note
1. Candidates must have passed their Class XII examination (higher secondary (10+2)) or equivalent at the time of document scruitiny/in-person counseling.
2. Candidates who have not passed their final board exam or equivalent before the document scrutiny/in-person counseling will not be eligible for admission.
NID DAT UG 2024: How can apply
Step 1: Go to the official website
Step 2: Click on the ‘New Registration’ tab
Step 3: Enter your mobile number, email ID, Date of birth, and click on the submit button.
Step 4: After registration, the exam conducting body will send login credentials to the registered e-mail ID and mobile number via email.
Step 5: Re-login to the portal using the credentials received after registration.
Step 6: Fill out the application form by entering all the details correctly.
Step 7: Upload all the necessary documents
Step 8: Pay the application fee.
Step 9: After completing the application form of NID DAT, the candidates are advised to take out the print for the future reference.

NID DAT UG 2024: Scheme of Exam
1. The Design Aptitude Tests will be conducted in two stages: Design Aptitude Test (DAT) Prelims & Design Aptitude Test (DAT) Mains.
2. The Design Aptitude Test (DAT) Prelims exam will be conducted as a paper-and-pencil/pen test

You must require at least 6 months to one year to prepare for the NID entrance exam.
Design seats at NID, around 5,000 students take the test. IIT Bombay and IIT Guwahati have only 30 and 45 seats respectively. All these design institutes are known for imparting the best of both- theory as well as practical. But among these, NID can be given a slightly higher edge than others.
Placement depends on the performance of the student during the selection interview. NID does not guarantee placements for any student.
