The National Institute of Design (NID) has released the official schedule for the Design Aptitude Test (DAT) Mains 2026 for candidates shortlisted for admission to the Master of Design (M.Des) program for the academic year 2026–27. The dates for both the Studio Test and the Interview have now been announced.

NID DAT Mains 2026: Studio Test Dates and Centres

The M.Des DAT Mains Studio Test is scheduled for Sunday, March 8, 2026, and will be conducted across various cities based on the candidate’s chosen discipline:

Ahmedabad:

• Industrial Design: Ceramic and Glass Design, Furniture and Interior Design, Product Design, Toy and Game Design, Transportation and Automobile Design, Universal Design

• Communication Design: Animation Film Design, Film and Video Communication, Graphic Design, Photography Design

Bengaluru:

• Interdisciplinary Design Studies: Design for Retail Experience, Strategic Design Management

• IT-Integrated Design: Digital Game Design, Information Design, Interaction Design, New Media Design

Gandhinagar:

• Textile, Apparel, and Lifestyle Accessory Design: Apparel Design, Lifestyle Accessory Design, Textile Design

NID has clarified that no requests for changing or rescheduling the Studio Test date will be entertained.

NID DAT Mains 2026: Interview Schedule

Interviews for the M.Des program will be held from March 21 to April 1, 2026, depending on the discipline. These will take place in Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, and Gandhinagar. Candidates must check the interview schedule carefully for their specific stream.

If a candidate’s university exams clash with the interview dates, they must notify NID by February 23, 2026, via email at admissions@nid.edu, along with supporting documents. Requests submitted after this date will not be considered.

Admit Card and Important Instructions

• The NID DAT Mains 2026 admit card will be available for download from 4 PM on February 24, 2026.

• The admit card will include the test centre address and reporting time.

• Candidates must attend both the Studio Test and the Interview to remain eligible for final admission.

• A printed copy of the admit card along with an original photo ID must be brought to the test and interview centres.

• Parents or guardians will not be allowed inside the examination venue.
