NEET(MDS) TIPS & TRICKS
1. Know your subjects and their weightage: There are around 17 subjects to cover and knowing which subject carries how much weightage is important. High-yielding subjects and topics would require you to have multiple revisions. Generally, it is observed that Oral pathology & oral microbiology, and oral medicine & radiology are important and carry around 14 marks each. Also, topics of dental materials, general medicine, and general surgery- surgical anatomy and surgical procedures are questioned for approximately 15 marks each.
2. Make a Time table: Making a timetable will not only help you manage your time and finish the syllabus in time but also keep you disciplined. This way, you will have to finish certain topics by a fixed deadline and won’t get overwhelmed by the vastness of the syllabus. You need to include test-day in your timetable for practice so that you do not leave any question blank.
3. Thorough Study: Study the topics/ subjects thoroughly. Do not skip any unit or chapter. You never know which topic may get asked in the paper. Topics with high weightage require multiple revisions. Topics like Oral pathology & oral microbiology, and oral medicine & radiology are important so you need to focus more on these topics. You need to study the topics with high-weightage first so as to avoid the last-minute hassle.
4. Divide the Syllabus: Dividing the syllabus may make your work much easier. . As the question paper is divided into two parts Part A & B, so you also have to divide the syllabus and prepare for the test accordingly. The criteria for the division can depend on your preference. You can divide it into easy and tough topics or lengthy and short topics or any other criteria.
5. High Weightage: It is important to cover all the topics. But, it is also important and helpful to focus more on the topics carrying high weightage. Topics of dental materials, general medicine, and general surgery- surgical anatomy and surgical procedures are questioned for approximately 15 marks each.
6. Make Notes: Do not forget to make short notes of whatever you study. They come in handy at the time of a quick revision and also help you memorize important things. There are some high-yielding topics that were a part of the previous NEET MDS Medicine examinations. Make more than one note for the preparation of NEET(MDS) you can make notes in two forms one complete written note, and the other in the form of pictures and charts to understand things better. Thus, you should have crystal clear concepts & deep knowledge about these topics.
7. Solve Sample Papers/ Mock Tests/ Practice Papers/ Previous Years’ Question Papers: Solving them helps you in finding out where you are standing from the preparation point of view. It also helps you catch your weak spot and then you can work on it accordingly. It helps you with time management so that you don't leave any question blank. It is advisable to attempt a mini Mock Test on a daily basis to be thorough with the topic.
8. Seek advice from a mentor:- Preparing for NEET MDS at home without coaching is not going be to be easy. You need a guide or a mentor to help you move in the right direction. Seek help from an old college professor or a senior, anyone who knows what NEET- MDS is about.
9. Study two subjects together: You can study two subjects simultaneously to save your time.
10. The Final push: The last two months of your preparation should be devoted to solving most of the available papers, where you can time manage yourself and attempt. Your focus should be to avoid mistakes in order to save yourself from negative marking. Also, solving chapter-wise MCQs at this stage will again help you go through all the chapters that you have learned and it will once again solve the purpose of revision. This will build in your confidence which is very important at this stage.
