EXAM PATTERN

‘Computer Based Online test’ means the candidate sits in front of a computer and the questions are presented on the computer monitor and the candidate answers the questions on the computer by using a keyboard or mouse. Each computer is connected to a server, which prepares the question set and delivers it to the candidate on the computer. This is unlike the traditional paper-pencil-based test, which is generally offered on a single day to all candidates. Salient features of BITSAT are given below:

The section wise distribution of Questions is given below :-

1- There is no time limit for individual parts of the test. The candidate can go back and change any of his/her answers to the 130 questions.

2- If a candidate answers all the 130 questions (without skipping any question), the candidate will have an option of attempting 12 (twelve) extra questions, if there is still time left. These extra questions will be from Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics/Biology, and Logical reasoning only; three questions from each of them. Further, once the candidate has opted for extra questions, he/she cannot go back for correction of any of the earlier answered 130 questions.

3- The questions are so designed that a good student will be able to answer 130 questions in 180 minutes. The extra questions (a maximum of 12) will give a chance to highly meritorious candidates to score higher. However, candidates should keep in mind the fact that there is negative marking for wrong answers and any attempt to answer the questions by pure guessing of the answers is not likely to have any advantage, but may result in a reduction in the total score.

4- The questions will be selected at random from a large question bank. Different candidates will get different question sets. An expert committee will ensure that the question sets are of comparable difficulty IV level, content, question type etc. In this matter, the decision of the expert committee will be final and binding on the candidate.

Mode of Examination

The BITSAT examination is conducted as an Online computer based test. The questions asked are of Objective type multiple choice in nature.

Medium of Examination

All the questions and instructions of the test will be in English only. Candidates should bring a pen for the purpose of rough work, signing etc. Blank sheets for rough work will be provided, if required. Calculators and logarithmic tables are not allowed in the test centers. Candidates are not allowed to bring any other personal belongings such as mobiles.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERA

Candidates intending to appear for BITSAT 2026 must meet the prescribed eligibility requirements. The BITSAT 2026 eligibility criteria include conditions related to educational qualifications and age. The detailed eligibility requirements are outlined below.

Nationality 

Indian citizens (including those residing in India or abroad).

Non-Resident Indians (NRIs).

Overseas Citizens of India (OCI card holders).

Foreign nationals (with a passport other than Indian).

Age Limit 

There is no age limit for BITSAT.

Education Qualification

B.E. (Except B.E. Environmental and Sustainability Engg.), and M.Sc. Programmes:
Candidates must have completed their 12th-grade examination under the 10+2 system from a recognized Central or State board or an equivalent qualification.
A minimum of five subjects is required, including Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, one Language, and any additional subject beyond these four.

Candidates must secure:

An aggregate of 75% marks in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics, and At least 60% marks in each of Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics individually. Both theory and practical components must be considered while calculating percentages.

B.Pharm., and B.E. Environmental and Sustainability Engg. Programme *

Candidates must have completed their 12th-grade examination under the 10+2 system from a recognized Central or State board or an equivalent qualification. A minimum of five subjects is required, including Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Mathematics, one Language, and any additional subject beyond these four.

Candidates must secure:

An aggregate of 75% marks in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology/Mathematics, andAt least 60% marks in each of Physics, Chemistry, and Biology/Mathematics individually. Both theory and practical components must be considered while calculating percentages.

Students entering through the PCB stream at the 10+2 level should possess mathematics proficiency at the high school (Class 10) level.

Admissions to all the programmes are subject to the conditions given below:

Students who are appearing for the 12th examination in 2026 or who have passed the 12th Examination in 2025 are eligible to appear in the BITSAT-2026. If a candidate has taken more than one attempt in the 12th class or its equivalent, only his/her latest performance is considered. Additionally, the candidates must meet the following conditions:

Students must appear for their 12th-grade examination for the first time in 2025 or 2026, with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics/Biology as compulsory subjects, provided their results are available by the submission deadline (June 01, 2026), as specified on the admissions portal.

OR

Students who completed their 12th-grade examination in 2025 may reappear for improvement exams in specific subject(s). The results of these improvements must be available by the submission deadline (June 01, 2026), as specified on the admissions portal.

OR

In all the above cases, the candidates' "Pass" status must remain unchanged after taking the improvement exam or repeating Grade 12.

Special Provisions

Direct Admission for Board Toppers: First-rank holders (PCM or PCB stream) from recognized Indian central/state boards (2026 results) get direct admission to preferred programme (subject to minimum PCM/PCB marks above). PCM toppers eligible for any programme; PCB toppers limited to B.Pharm. or B.E. Environmental & Sustainability Engineering. (Apply separately via portal if eligible; limited to one per board, with tie-breakers if needed.

Direct Admission to Boards Toppers

First rank students of all the central and state boards in India will be given direct admission to the program of their choice, irrespective of their BITSAT score as per the eligibility criteria mentioned above. Further details about this scheme will be available at BITS admission website.

EXAM ANALYSIS

BITSAT UG 2026 was conducted in two sessions through a computer-based test. The analysis below is based on student feedback, shift-wise paper reviews and expert analysis and covers the exam dates, shifts, section-wise difficulty, good attempts and overall difficulty level.

Session 1 – Exam Date & Shift

BITSAT 2026 Session 1 was conducted on April 15 and 16, 2026. Each day had two shifts: Shift 1 from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM and Shift 2 from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM.

Session 1 – Section-wise Analysis

Physics: The section was generally moderate, with a mix of conceptual, theoretical and formula-based questions. Topics such as Current Electricity, Electrostatics, Magnetism, Optics, Modern Physics and Work, Power & Energy were reported frequently.

Chemistry: Chemistry was mostly easy to moderate, although some shifts had tricky questions. NCERT-based, Organic and Inorganic questions were prominent, with Physical Chemistry also having numerical questions.

Mathematics: Mathematics was the toughest and most time-consuming section in several shifts. Calculus, Probability, Vectors, 3D Geometry, Coordinate Geometry and Integration required considerable calculation and question selection.

English & Logical Reasoning: This was generally the easiest and most scoring section, although some Logical Reasoning questions were time-consuming or tricky.

Session 1 – Difficulty Level

The overall difficulty of Session 1 was moderate, although the difficulty varied between shifts. April 16 Shift 2 was considered the toughest shift, with comparatively difficult Chemistry and lengthy Mathematics questions.

Session 1 – Good Attempts

A good attempt was generally estimated at around 100–110 questions out of 130 for a well-prepared candidate maintaining good accuracy. For the relatively tougher shifts, around 95–105 attempts with high accuracy could be considered a good performance. These are indicative ranges based on student/expert analysis, not an official BITS Pilani benchmark.

Session 2 – Exam Date & Shift

BITSAT 2026 Session 2 was conducted from May 24 to 26, 2026. The examination was conducted in two shifts each day, with Shift 1 from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM and Shift 2 from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM.

Session 2 – Section-wise Analysis

Physics: Physics was generally moderate to difficult, with formula-based as well as conceptual questions. Electrodynamics, Modern Physics, Magnetism, Optics, EMI, AC and Mechanics were among the important areas reported.

Chemistry: Chemistry ranged from easy to moderate to moderate-tough, depending on the shift. Many questions were NCERT-oriented, with Organic named reactions, Coordination Chemistry, Electrochemistry, Chemical Kinetics and Inorganic Chemistry featuring prominently.

Mathematics: Mathematics remained the most challenging and lengthy section. Questions from Vectors, 3D Geometry, Probability, Calculus, Differential Equations, Matrices and Determinants required good speed and calculation ability.

English & Logical Reasoning: English and Logical Reasoning were generally easy to moderate and comparatively scoring, allowing candidates to save time for Mathematics and Physics.

Session 2 – Difficulty Level

Overall, Session 2 was reported as moderate to difficult, with noticeable variation between shifts. Some shifts had lengthy Mathematics and Physics sections, while Chemistry and English/LR provided comparatively easier scoring opportunities.

Session 2 – Good Attempts

For Session 2, a good attempt was approximately 95–110 questions out of 130, provided the candidate maintained strong accuracy. In tougher shifts, attempting around 95–105 questions accurately was considered reasonable. These figures are indicative and should not be treated as official cutoffs or score requirements.

Overall BITSAT UG 2026 Analysis

Overall, BITSAT 2026 remained a speed- and accuracy-oriented examination. Mathematics was consistently the most time-consuming section, Physics was moderate to difficult, Chemistry ranged from easy to moderate, and English & Logical Reasoning were generally more scoring. Candidates who managed their time effectively and avoided excessive negative marking had an advantage.

STUDY TIPS

Candidates should focus on NCERT concepts, regular practice, speed, and accuracy while preparing for BITSAT Exam. Create a structured study plan, revise important formulas and concepts regularly, and practise previous-year questions and mock tests. Give special attention to weak areas and analyse mistakes after every mock test. In the final stage, focus on revision, time management, and solving questions accurately under exam-like conditions.

???????1- The first step is to go through and refer the syllabus of BITSAT, and make a study plan accordingly. Knowing that the syllabus for the BITSAT is a bit extensive and deep, aspiring candidates must plan their study pattern accordingly and develop some strategies.

2- Secondly, candidates are required to study the BITSAT exam pattern to know the structure of the question paper. It is important to know the distribution of sections, questions and marks. 

3- To build the foundation complete the NCERT books first. Before going to any other books for preparation, just first and foremost prepare from NCERT. The syllabus and questions are entirely from the NCERT books only. 

4- Since BITSAT is an online examination, practicing from sample papers and Mock test will help you understand the exam pattern more clearly and you will get to know the level of the examination.

5- Learn how to manage time. As the exam carries more questions and less time, do not go for the high-level questions rather practice decent level questions. Try to attempt the maximum questions in the first hour. Around 70-80 questions can be tried by a candidate to finish. This will help in doing physics and maths later properly.

6- Start your exam first with chemistry then English. It will save a lot of time of the candidate as the questions in both the sections are direct and theory-based.

7- The most important of all, the myth that “English is easy” and can be done just before the exam. BITSAT gives a good amount of questions on this and starts preparing for it for at least 6 months down the line.

8- Preparation from good study material matters a lot in the preparations. Learning from the best and recommended books is also a vital factor that affects the results of the students. 

9- Lastly, do not forget to Revise what you have studied from the starting. Taking revisions must be included as the first task of the day. Concentrate and focus on brushing up and revising all the important concepts before you appear in the examination.

OVERVIEW

BITSAT (Birla Institute of Technology & Science Admission Test) is a national-level computer-based entrance examination conducted by BITS Pilani for admission to its Integrated First Degree programmes, including B.E., B.Pharm., and Integrated M.Sc. programmes, offered at its campuses in Pilani, Goa, and Hyderabad.

SELECTION PROCESS

BITSAT Merit List

BITS Pilani prepares the BITSAT merit list based on the candidate’s performance in BITSAT, eligibility criteria, and programme preferences. The admission process is conducted through two lists:

BITSAT Admit List: This list includes candidates who are offered admission based on their merit, BITSAT score, programme preference, and availability of seats. Candidates included in the admit list must accept the offer and complete the fee-payment and admission formalities within the prescribed deadline.

BITSAT Wait List: This list includes eligible candidates who are not offered admission in a particular iteration but may be considered for admission in subsequent iterations if seats become available.

Admission to the programmes offered at the different BITS campuses is based primarily on merit in BITSAT, subject to the prescribed eligibility requirements, candidate preferences, and availability of seats.
