EXAM ANALYSIS
NMIMS NPAT 2026 Exam Analysis: Insights Based on 2025 Patterns
The NMIMS NPAT 2026 is expected to maintain the same structure as recent years, including 2025, with no major announced changes in the official Admission Handout (always verify on npat.nmims.edu for the latest). The exam remains a computer-based test with 120 MCQs across three sections, 100 minutes duration, no negative marking, and up to three attempts (best score counts). Normalization applies across slots/dates to ensure fairness.
The overall difficulty in 2025 was easy to moderate, with a focus on speed and accuracy due to the tight time limit. Verbal and Reasoning sections were generally approachable, while Quantitative could feel tougher in some slots because of calculation-heavy questions. For 2026, anticipate a similar easy-to-moderate level, possibly with continued emphasis on data interpretation, inference-based reading, and visual/analytical reasoning—trends seen in recent cycles. With ~80,000+ candidates annually, competition remains high, especially for Mumbai campus programs.
Overall Exam Insights
Pattern Stability: 120 questions (40 per section), no sectional timers—flexible order but smart time management is key.
Recommended Strategy: Start with Proficiency in English (quick wins), move to Reasoning, and tackle Quantitative last (more time-consuming).
Good Overall Attempts: Aim for 90–100+ correct attempts for a strong score; 92–98 is often competitive in easier slots.
Safe Target Score: 75+ out of 120 for top preferences (Mumbai BBA variants); higher (80+) boosts chances significantly.
Section-Wise Breakdown & Expectations for 2026
Proficiency in English Language (Verbal Reasoning)
Difficulty: Easy to Moderate (often the easiest and fastest section).
Good Attempts: 35–40 (or 34–37 in varied slots).
Key Focus: Reading Comprehension (inference-based, shorter passages), Cloze Test, Spot the Error, Prepositions, Vocabulary/Phrases, Para Jumbles.
Tip for 2026: Practice quick RC scanning and grammar rules—build speed here to save time for tougher sections.
Reasoning & General Intelligence (Logical Reasoning)
Difficulty: Easy to Moderate.
Good Attempts: 30–35 (or 32–35).
Key Focus: Verbal Reasoning, Visual Reasoning, Data Sufficiency, Venn Diagrams, Linear Arrangements, Series/Odd One Out, Coding-Decoding, Syllogisms.
Tip for 2026: Expect a mix of analytical and visual puzzles—Data Sufficiency and Arrangements remain prominent; practice puzzles to maintain accuracy under time pressure.
Quantitative & Numerical Ability
Difficulty: Easy to Moderate (some slots Moderate-Hard due to lengthy calculations).
Good Attempts: 25–30 (or 26–29).
Key Focus: Data Interpretation (sets/questions), Data Comparison, Trigonometry, Set Theory/Venn Diagrams, Sequence & Series, Time & Work, Probability, Ratios/Proportions, Percentages, Algebra, Surds, Statistics, Modulus.
Tip for 2026: Arithmetic and DI topics dominate—master shortcuts and quick calculations; avoid getting stuck on one question.
Projected Cutoffs for 2026 (Based on 2025 Trends)
Cutoffs aren't officially fixed but derived from merit lists, varying by program, campus, applicant numbers, and difficulty. No sectional cutoffs, but balanced performance helps. Trends show slight increases over years due to rising competition.
BBA (Mumbai - Flagship): 71–76 (often 71–73 or higher for top calls).
B.Sc. Finance (Mumbai): 78–80.
B.Com (Hons.) / B.Sc. Economics: 65–67 (or around 69–71 range in some estimates).
BBA (Bengaluru/Navi Mumbai/Hyderabad): 66–70 (5–7 marks lower than Mumbai).
BBA Branding & Advertising / BA Liberal Arts: 58–60.
Other Programs: 50–52 or lower for less competitive options.
Overall Safe Score: 75+ for strong Mumbai chances; 85+ ideal for flagship programs.
Mumbai remains toughest; newer campuses (e.g., Indore/Chandigarh) have lower thresholds. Factors like normalization and multiple attempts give flexibility—use all three wisely.
Preparation Recommendations for NPAT 2026
Prioritize high-weight topics: DI/Trigonometry (Quant), Data Sufficiency/Arrangements (Reasoning), RC/Grammar (Verbal).
Practice mocks regularly (3+ per week) under timed conditions—focus on accuracy since no negatives.
Use official sample papers/handout from npat.nmims.edu, plus SAT-style resources for similar difficulty.
Build speed: Aim 20–25 min on Verbal first, then Reasoning, leaving ample for Quant.
Monitor the official site for 2026 updates—registration likely starts soon (Dec 2025/Jan 2026), exam window March–May.

NMIMS NPAT EXAM ANALYSIS 2021
NMIMS-NPAT 2021 exam was held on three days including June 27, July 2 and July 3. This year the NPAT exam was conducted as an online proctored mode from home. The pattern of the exam was in line with the previous year. The NPAT exam comprises three sections to gauge candidates on proficiency in the English language, reasoning & general intelligence, and quantitative & numerical ability. Candidates had to answer as many as 120 questions in the NPAT 2021 exam. The difficulty level of the NPAT 2021 question paper for the quantitative and numerical ability section was moderate to hard as few questions were time-consuming. The other two sections of the question paper i.e. proficiency in the English language and reasoning ability were easy to moderate. The expected NPAT 2021 cut off for the BBA course offered by NMIMS Mumbai is likely to follow the trends and remain between 69-71. Whereas, for NMIMS Bangalore, the expected cutoff would remain somewhere between 66 to 70.

COUNSELLING PROCESS & CUTOFFS
The counselling (also called seat allotment/admission confirmation) is primarily online through the NPAT portal (npat.nmims.edu), with some offline elements for document verification or campus-specific rounds (especially for non-Mumbai campuses like Indore, Hyderabad, Chandigarh). No GD/PI/WAT is required for most core UG programs (BBA, B.Com (Hons.), B.Sc. Finance/Economics, etc.)—it's merit-based.
Step-by-Step Process:
Merit List Release — After results (post-exam window), NMIMS publishes merit lists (first, second, and possibly more if seats remain) on the portal. Lists are program- and campus-specific, based on your best NPAT score (from up to 3 attempts), normalized if needed.
Check Merit List — Log in to your dashboard (using registration credentials) to view if shortlisted, your rank, and allotted program/campus (based on preferences chosen during registration).
Seat Allotment & Confirmation — If allotted:
Download the admission/offer letter.
Upload required documents (e.g., 10th/12th marksheets, category certificate if applicable, ID proof).
Pay the admission confirmation fee (part of tuition; non-refundable in most cases) within the strict deadline.
Document Verification & Final Admission — Online upload + possible physical verification at the allotted campus (some sources note offline counselling rounds at campuses like Mumbai for main programs, or regional for others to reduce travel). Bring originals if attending in person.
Multiple Rounds — If seats remain vacant after the first round, subsequent merit lists/counselling rounds occur (e.g., late June–July). Update 12th marks if predicted/appearing.
Final Steps — Pay remaining fees, complete registration, and secure your seat. Admission is provisional until full verification.
Key Notes: Seat allocation considers NPAT merit rank, program/campus preferences, seat availability (~3,900+ total), and reservations (if applicable). Missing deadlines leads to forfeiture. For newer campuses or specific programs, counselling may include campus visits.
Cutoffs
NMIMS does not officially publish fixed cutoffs (no minimum marks/ranks announced in advance). Instead:
Admission is purely merit-based via NPAT scores ? higher score = better chance for preferred campus/program.
Cutoffs (closing ranks/scores) are derived from previous merit lists and vary yearly based on:
Exam difficulty.
Number of applicants/attempts.
Seat availability.
Candidate performance.
Indicative/Expected Cutoff Trends (based on recent cycles like 2024–2025; out of ~120 marks, normalized):
Mumbai Campus (most competitive, flagship): 80–95+ marks (often 85–96 for top programs like BBA, BBA FinTech, B.Sc. Finance).
Other Campuses (Bengaluru, Navi Mumbai, Hyderabad, etc.): 70–85 marks (lower for less preferred options).
Section-wise averages: ~25–30+ per section (Quantitative, Reasoning, English) for competitive calls.
Good score for strong chance: 85+ overall (especially for Mumbai BBA variants).
These are estimates—actuals depend on the year's pool. Mumbai demands the highest due to demand and prestige.
