The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2027 registration process is underway. Candidates can submit their applications without a late fee until September 27, 2026. Those who miss the regular deadline can apply during the extended window with a late fee until October 5, 2026.

The Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras), the organising institute for GATE 2027, has also clarified that candidates can register using an unverified DigiLocker account. Such applicants can select the default ID proof while filling out the application form. Their applications will be scrutinised after the registration deadline for the required documents.

GATE 2027: Unverified DigiLocker Account Rules

Candidates with an unverified DigiLocker account can proceed with GATE 2027 registration by selecting the default ID proof during the application process.

According to IIT Madras:

• Applications submitted through unverified DigiLocker accounts will be scrutinised after the registration deadline.

• Candidates will be required to provide the necessary documents during scrutiny.

• Original documents will also be verified at the examination hall.

• Candidates are advised to use a verified DigiLocker account for a smoother experience.

• Applicants should not delete the DigiLocker account used for GATE registration after submitting the application and paying the fee.

Steps to Create a DigiLocker Account

Candidates who do not have a DigiLocker account can follow these steps:

• First visit the DigiLocker website.

• Click on the “Sign Up” or “Create Account” option.

• Enter the registered mobile number and verify it through OTP.

• Enter the required personal details.

• Set a six-digit security PIN.

• Submit the registration details.

• Complete the account creation process.

Candidates should ensure that the details entered in DigiLocker match the information required for GATE 2027 registration.

GATE 2027: About the Examination

GATE 2027 is being organised by IIT Madras. The examination is conducted jointly by the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) and the IITs on behalf of the National Coordination Board (NCB), Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education, Government of India.

GATE scores are used for admission to postgraduate and doctoral programmes. Some Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) also use GATE scores for recruitment.

The official GATE 2027 website has also introduced a new Robotics and Automation (RA) test paper and announced revisions to some sectional paper codes and syllabi.
