SBI Clerk Recruitment 2026: The State Bank of India (SBI) has opened the online application window for the recruitment of 1,538 Junior Associates (Customer Support & Sales) in the clerical cadre. The recruitment drive has been announced specifically for backlog vacancies reserved for candidates belonging to the Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST) and Other Backward Class (OBC) categories.

The online registration process began on August 7, 2026. Eligible candidates can submit their applications until August 27, 2026. Applicants are permitted to apply for vacancies in only one State or Union Territory.

Of the total 1,538 vacancies, 207 are reserved for SC candidates, 1,219 for ST candidates and 112 for OBC candidates. Candidates selected under this recruitment will be appointed in the State or Union Territory chosen at the time of application.

SBI Clerk Recruitment 2026: Eligibility Criteria

Candidates applying for the Junior Associate posts must meet the prescribed age and educational requirements.

The applicant's age should be between 20 and 28 years as on April 1, 2026. Candidates must have been born between April 2, 1998, and April 1, 2006, with both dates included.

Applicants should hold a graduation degree in any discipline from a recognised university or possess an equivalent qualification accepted by the Central Government. Candidates who are appearing in the final year or semester of their graduation programme may also apply provisionally, provided they complete their degree requirements by December 31, 2026.

Candidates must also have the ability to read, write, speak and understand the local language prescribed for the State or Union Territory selected by them.

SBI Clerk 2026: Selection Process

The recruitment process will be conducted in three stages:

  • Preliminary Examination

  • Main Examination

  • Local Language Proficiency Test (LLPT), wherever applicable

SBI Clerk Preliminary Exam

The preliminary examination will consist of 100 marks and will have a duration of 60 minutes. It will include three sections:

  • English Language: 30 questions

  • Numerical Ability: 35 questions

  • Reasoning Ability: 35 questions

Candidates will receive 20 minutes for each section. A penalty of one-fourth of the marks assigned to a question will be applied for every incorrect answer.

The preliminary examination is tentatively scheduled to take place in September 2026.

SBI Clerk Main Exam

Candidates shortlisted through the preliminary examination will be eligible to appear for the main examination. The mains paper will contain 190 questions carrying a total of 200 marks, with an overall duration of 2 hours and 40 minutes.

The examination will assess candidates in General/Financial Awareness, General English, Quantitative Aptitude, and Reasoning Ability & Computer Aptitude.

Negative marking will also apply in the main examination, with one-fourth of the marks assigned to an incorrect answer deducted.

Marks obtained in the preliminary examination will not be considered for preparing the final merit list. Final selection will primarily be based on performance in the main examination, subject to qualifying in the local language test wherever required.

SBI Clerk 2026: Local Language Proficiency Test

Candidates who studied the specified local language in Class 10 or Class 12 and can produce the relevant marksheet or certificate will generally be exempt from appearing in the Local Language Proficiency Test.

Candidates who do not have the required language qualification documents will have to qualify in the LLPT before appointment. Failure to demonstrate proficiency in the prescribed local language will result in disqualification from the recruitment process.

SBI Clerk Recruitment 2026: Salary

Junior Associates in SBI will receive a pay scale ranging from Rs 24,050 to Rs 64,480. The starting basic pay is Rs 26,730, which includes two advance increments applicable to graduates.

As per SBI's notification, the approximate starting monthly emoluments for a clerical employee posted in a metropolitan city such as Mumbai can be around Rs 46,000, including applicable Dearness Allowance and other allowances.

SBI Clerk Recruitment 2026: Application Fee

Candidates belonging to the SC, ST, PwBD, Ex-Servicemen and Disabled Ex-Servicemen categories are exempt from paying the application fee.

Candidates from the OBC category are required to pay Rs 750, including applicable application and intimation charges.

How to Apply for SBI Clerk Recruitment 2026

Eligible candidates can complete the application process online through the SBI careers portal. The registration process involves entering personal and educational information, uploading the required documents and paying the applicable fee.

Candidates should keep the following items ready before beginning the application:

  • Recent passport-size photograph

  • Signature

  • Left thumb impression

  • Handwritten declaration

  • Valid email ID and mobile number

  • Educational qualification documents

After completing the application and fee payment, candidates should carefully verify all the information before final submission. They must download and preserve the system-generated application form and payment receipt for future use.
