NEET UG 2026 Counselling: Anti-Paper Leak Bill Update

Amid concerns over irregularities in competitive examinations, the Union Cabinet approved the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill, 2026 on July 24, 2026. The proposed legislation seeks to strengthen measures against paper leaks and other unfair practices in public examinations, including major entrance and eligibility tests.

The development follows protests by students regarding alleged irregularities associated with NEET UG 2026. Demonstrations were held at Jantar Mantar in Delhi and other locations, with students demanding stronger safeguards for the examination system.

What Does the Proposed Bill Aim to Do?

The proposed amendments seek to introduce tougher action against individuals involved in paper leaks and other forms of malpractice during public examinations.

Under the proposed changes, the minimum prison sentence for serious offences could increase from three years to five years, while imprisonment may extend up to 10 years in severe cases. The provisions also propose fines of up to $10 crore for offenders.

For students, the proposed measures are intended to improve examination security and strengthen confidence in the fairness and credibility of public examinations.

How to Check Participating Institutes for NEET UG 2026 Counselling

MCC provides information about participating medical institutes through its online counselling portal. Candidates can check institutions and available programmes based on categories such as Central Universities and Deemed Universities. The portal also provides information related to AIIMS, Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER) and institutes offering B.Sc Nursing programmes through NEET UG.

Candidates can check participating institutes by following these steps:

• Open the Important Links section.

• Select “Participating Institute Details NEET UG 2026.”

• Choose the required institute category.

• Select the institute and relevant programme.

• Click Submit to view the available details.

Candidates should keep the following documents ready for the MCC counselling and admission process:

• NEET UG 2026 Admit Card

• NEET UG 2026 Scorecard/Rank Letter

• Class 10 certificate and marksheet

• Class 12 certificate and marksheet

• Valid identity proof such as Aadhaar, PAN, Driving Licence or Passport

• Passport-size photographs

• Provisional Seat Allotment Letter

• Caste Certificate, wherever applicable

• PwBD Certificate, wherever applicable

NEET UG 2026 Re-Test Result

The result of the NEET UG 2026 re-test was announced on July 16, 2026. The re-test was conducted on June 21 for affected candidates. According to the information provided, nearly 20 lakh candidates appeared in the examination, of whom approximately 11.21 lakh candidates qualified.
