Description
The Common Admission Test (CAT) 2026) notification has been published on the official website, iimcat.ac.in. The Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) will open the online registration process on August 3, 2026, at 10:00 AM, and candidates can submit their applications until September 15, 2026, at 5:00 PM.
CAT is one of India's most competitive management entrance examinations and serves as the gateway for admission to all 21 IIMs along with several other reputed management institutes, including FMS Delhi, SPJIMR Mumbai, MDI Gurgaon, IITs offering MBA programmes, and IIFT.
CAT 2026 Exam Date and Admit Card
The CAT 2026 examination is scheduled to take place on Sunday, November 29, 2026, in three shifts across approximately 170 test cities nationwide.
The admit card will be made available for download from November 4, 2026, on the official portal. Candidates can access and download their hall tickets any time before the examination date.
According to the official schedule, the CAT 2026 result is likely to be declared during the first week of January 2027. The score obtained in CAT 2026 will remain valid until December 31, 2027.
CAT 2026 Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must satisfy the following eligibility requirements:
Hold a bachelor's degree from a recognised university with at least 50% aggregate marks.
Candidates belonging to the SC, ST, and PwD categories must have secured 45% aggregate marks.
Students appearing in the final year of their undergraduate programme are also eligible to apply.
There is no maximum age limit for appearing in the examination.
CAT 2026 Exam Pattern
The examination pattern is expected to remain unchanged from the previous year.
The test will consist of 68 questions divided into three sections:
Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension (VARC): 24 questions
Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning (DILR): 22 questions
Quantitative Aptitude (QA): 22 questions
Each section will have a 40-minute time limit, and candidates must complete one section before moving to the next, as switching between sections will not be allowed.
Approximately 70% of the questions will be Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs), while the remaining 30% will be Type-In-The-Answer (TITA) questions. A penalty of one mark will be deducted only for incorrect answers in the MCQ section. There is no negative marking for TITA questions.
CAT 2026 Application Fee
The registration fee is as follows:
General category: Rs 2,700
SC, ST, and PwD categories: Rs 1,350
