The Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee (IIT Roorkee), the organising institute for JEE Advanced 2026, has clarified that candidates who currently fall short of the prescribed Class 12 marks requirement can still participate in the ongoing counselling process.

According to the institute, students belonging to the General, OBC-NCL, and EWS categories who have scored below 75 per cent in their Class 12 examinations, as well as SC, ST, and PwD candidates scoring below 65 per cent, are not barred from filling in their choices during counselling.

IIT Roorkee stated that seat allocation will continue to be based on candidates' JEE Advanced ranks. Eligible students can proceed with the choice-filling process and take part in seat allotment rounds despite not yet meeting the minimum qualifying marks requirement.

Revised Marksheet Must Be Submitted by July 15

While allowing participation in counselling, the institute has reiterated that candidates must eventually satisfy the academic eligibility criteria for admission into the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs).

Under the current admission rules, General, OBC-NCL, and EWS category candidates are required to secure at least 75 per cent marks in their Class 12 or equivalent examination. For SC, ST, and PwD candidates, the minimum requirement is 65 per cent.

Students who expect an improvement in their marks through re-evaluation, verification, or any other approved process must submit an updated scorecard meeting the required percentage by July 15, 2026.

The revised marksheet should be sent to the designated email address provided by the institute. Admission will be confirmed only after the updated academic records are verified and accepted by the authorities.

Admission Subject to Eligibility Verification

IIT Roorkee has clarified that final admission will be granted only if candidates successfully meet the required Class 12 eligibility criteria within the stipulated deadline.

The institute further indicated that admission confirmation will be linked to the seat allotted after the completion of the fourth round of counselling. Candidates who fail to provide the necessary revised marksheet by the deadline may lose their admission eligibility despite securing a seat through counselling.

The announcement comes amid concerns raised by some Class 12 students regarding the evaluation process conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). Several students have questioned the accuracy of the board's digital assessment system, citing alleged discrepancies in scanned answer sheets and mismatches in handwriting records.

In light of these concerns, the clarification from IIT Roorkee offers temporary relief to candidates awaiting revised results or updates to their academic scores while participating in the admission process.
