Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia has launched the Rs.175 crore “Coffees of Nagaland” Mission aimed at developing Nagaland into a premium specialty coffee hub with a strong presence in both domestic and international markets. The initiative seeks to strengthen the state’s coffee sector by creating an integrated ecosystem focused on production, branding, exports, tourism, and farmer welfare.

Rs.175 Crore Coffees of Nagaland Mission Unveiled

Union Minister for Development of North Eastern Region Jyotiraditya Scindia officially launched the Cluster-based Coffee Value Chain Development Mission for Nagaland. Backed by an investment of Rs.175 crore, the mission has been designed as a comprehensive coffee value-chain development programme.

The initiative aims to position Nagaland as a globally recognised specialty coffee destination rather than limiting the state to raw coffee production alone.

What is the Coffees of Nagaland Mission?

The mission focuses on creating an end-to-end coffee ecosystem in Nagaland. Along with expanding coffee cultivation, the programme will support multiple stages of the coffee industry, including plantation development, processing, branding, marketing, exports, traceability, tourism, and farmer training.

The broader objective is to help local coffee growers receive greater economic value by participating in the entire coffee supply chain instead of only selling unprocessed coffee beans.

Pilot Coffee Clusters Selected

The mission will adopt a cluster-based development model to improve efficiency and create specialised coffee zones.

Two pilot clusters have been identified under the programme:

• Tuophema in Kohima district will focus on Arabica coffee cultivation.

• Ghotovi in Niuland district has been selected for Robusta coffee production.

These pilot clusters are expected to become model centres for future coffee expansion projects across the state.
