Description

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee successfully conducted the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Advanced 2026 for both Paper 1 and Paper 2 on May 17. Following the exam, IIT Roorkee has made the question papers available on the official website.

Exam Schedule and Highlights

Paper 1 was held in the morning session from 9:00 AM to 12:00 noon, while Paper 2 was conducted in the afternoon session from 2:30 PM to 5:30 PM. Students and educators reported that the overall difficulty of the exam ranged from moderate to challenging. Mathematics was widely regarded as the most difficult and time-consuming section in both papers. Physics focused on conceptual understanding and application-oriented problems, whereas Chemistry, while somewhat manageable, included tricky and lengthy questions.

Paper 2 posed additional challenges due to its highly conceptual and calculation-intensive Mathematics section. Initial feedback from candidates and teachers suggests that the qualifying cut-off for this year may differ slightly from previous years.

Expected Category-Wise Cut-Off for JEE Advanced 2026

CategoryExpected Minimum PercentageExpected Percentile RangeExpected Marks

ST10.30%47 – 4945–55
PwD10.30%0.001 – 1

Competition is expected to remain intense for candidates in the General category due to limited IIT seats. Candidates in the General-EWS and OBC-NCL categories may see slightly relaxed qualifying marks, while SC and ST candidates generally face lower cut-offs. Experts note that the challenging Mathematics section and the overall difficulty of the exam could influence the final qualifying scores.

Understanding the JEE Advanced Cut-Off

The cut-off for JEE Advanced represents the minimum score a candidate must achieve to be included in the Common Rank List (CRL), qualifying them for admission to IIT undergraduate programmes. The cut-off varies each year based on:

  • Exam difficulty level

  • Number of candidates appearing

  • Overall performance of students

  • Seat availability across IITs

After results are declared, course-specific opening and closing ranks are released during the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) counselling process.

Note: The cut-off figures provided above are media estimates and not the official numbers released by IIT Roorkee.
