Description
Indian Railways has released an indicative notification for the recruitment of Assistant Loco Pilot (ALP) posts under Centralised Employment Notification (CEN) 01/2026. The recruitment will be carried out through multiple Railway Recruitment Boards (RRBs) across the country for a total of 11,127 vacancies.
The online application process for RRB ALP Recruitment 2026 will start on May 15, 2026, and eligible candidates can submit their applications until June 14, 2026. Interested applicants must apply through the official portal.
Recruitment overview and eligibility criteria
The Assistant Loco Pilot posts fall under Pay Level-2, with a starting salary of Rs. 19,900. Candidates applying for the position must have an ITI certificate or a diploma in engineering in the relevant trade or discipline.
The minimum age requirement is 18 years, while the upper age limit is 30 years as of July 1, 2026. Age relaxation will be applicable as per government rules, which will be detailed in the official notification.
The recruitment will be conducted by various RRBs, including Ahmedabad, Ajmer, Bengaluru, Bhopal, Chandigarh, Chennai, Gorakhpur, Guwahati, Kolkata, Mumbai, Patna, Prayagraj, Ranchi, Secunderabad, and others. Zone-wise vacancy distribution will be released in the detailed notification.

Selection process for RRB ALP 2026
The selection procedure will include multiple stages: CBT-1, CBT-2, Computer Based Aptitude Test (CBAT), document verification, and medical examination.
CBT-1 exam pattern
The first stage CBT will consist of 75 questions carrying 75 marks, to be completed within 60 minutes. The paper will cover Mathematics, Reasoning, General Science, and General Awareness.
There will be negative marking, with one-third of a mark deducted for each incorrect answer. Minimum qualifying marks are 40% for UR and EWS candidates, 30% for OBC and SC candidates, and 25% for ST candidates.
CBT-2 and aptitude test structure
CBT-2 will be conducted in two parts over a total duration of 2 hours and 30 minutes. Part A will include 100 questions, while Part B will consist of 75 technical questions based on the relevant trade.
Candidates must secure at least 35% marks in Part B to qualify.
Shortlisted candidates will then appear for the CBAT, where a minimum T-score of 42 in each test battery is required.
The final selection will be based on equal weightage, with 50% marks from CBT-2 Part A and 50% from the CBAT.
