The Department of School Education and Literacy, Government of Karnataka, has introduced the Karnataka Advanced Attendance Management System (KAAMS), also known as the Kartavya-KAAMS mobile application, through a circular issued on 27 April 2026. The system is aimed at monitoring attendance of permanent teachers, Head Masters, equivalent cadre officers, and non-teaching staff working in government educational institutions and offices across Karnataka.

Key Features of KAAMS

The Kartavya-KAAMS app integrates Artificial Intelligence, Facial Recognition technology, and Geo-Fencing to ensure accurate attendance verification. Employees are required to register using official credentials, validate their mobile number linked with the Human Resource Management System, complete facial authentication, and enable location services on their devices.

Attendance Process and Implementation

The application mandates employees to mark attendance twice daily from their designated workplace. “In Time” attendance must be recorded upon arrival at the institution, while “Out Time” attendance is to be marked before leaving the premises. The system will be implemented from the academic year 2026–27 and will replace the existing biometric attendance system starting 1 May 2026 across various government departments, boards, and corporations.

System Integration and Administrative Use

Kartavya-KAAMS is integrated with the Human Resource Management System and the Students Achievement Tracking System to streamline data management. Developed by the Department of Personnel and Administrative Reforms (e-Governance), the application has already been piloted in departments such as health, education, and the Legislative Assembly Secretariat.

The system is designed to cover over 20 lakh government employees, including contractual staff, in Karnataka. It encompasses teachers, non-teaching personnel, and administrative officers working in government educational institutions and offices.
