Description

The Indian Air Force (IAF) has released the AFCAT 02/2026 notification for recruitment through the Air Force Common Admission Test, NCC Special Entry, and GATE Score Entry. This recruitment drive is aimed at candidates for courses starting in July 2027, with the online application process beginning on May 20, 2026 via the official AFCAT portal at afcat.edcil.co.in.

Both male and female candidates are eligible to apply for the Flying Branch as well as Ground Duty branches, which include both Technical and Non-Technical roles. The recruitment offers options under the Permanent Commission (PC) and Short Service Commission (SSC) depending on the chosen branch and category.

Eligibility and Vacancies

A total of over 300 vacancies have been announced under AFCAT 02/2026. Applicants for Ground Duty Technical posts must hold a BTech degree, while those applying for Non-Technical Ground Duty posts need a graduate degree in the relevant discipline.

For the Flying Branch, candidates must be between 20 and 24 years, whereas the age range for Ground Duty Technical and Non-Technical posts is 20 to 26 years, calculated as on July 1, 2027. Age relaxations will be provided as per IAF rules.

Application Fee and Important Dates

The online registration window will be open from May 20, 2026, to June 19, 2026. The notification was officially released on May 12, 2026. AFCAT applicants are required to pay an application fee of Rs. 550 plus applicable GST, while candidates applying through NCC Special Entry or GATE Score Entry are exempted from any application fee. Examination dates will be announced later.

Selection Process

The selection will be conducted purely on merit through a structured and transparent process. The recruitment process includes:

  • AFCAT Written Examination at designated centres across India.

  • Air Force Selection Board (AFSB) evaluation, including interviews and psychological testing.

  • Document verification and medical examination.

Candidates appearing at the Air Force Selection Board for the first time will be eligible for travel allowance, as per the conditions outlined in the official notification. The IAF emphasizes a fair and merit-based selection throughout the recruitment process.
