Description

The Bogotá International Book Fair (FILBo) 2026 concluded with India serving as the Guest of Honour Country, showcasing a rich blend of literature, culture, and arts. The Indian participation was organized by the Ministry of Education, Government of India, in collaboration with the Embassy of India in Colombia, and executed by the National Book Trust (NBT). The India Pavilion attracted nearly 300,000 visitors, making it one of the largest cultural presentations by India at an international book fair.

According to the NBT press release, the pavilion spanned 3,000 square metres and featured a diverse program, including literary discussions, exhibitions, film screenings, cultural performances, and interactive sessions designed to foster stronger literary and cultural connections between India and Latin America.

The pavilion’s design drew inspiration from India’s civilisational and architectural heritage, incorporating elements from Kerala’s Nalukettu, Amber Fort, and Hampi Bazaar, blending traditional aesthetics with contemporary creativity. Nijoo Dubey, one of the curators, explained that the concept sought to represent “many Indias together” within a single immersive space. India’s Ambassador to Colombia, Vanlalhuma, highlighted that the country’s role as Guest of Honour would bolster diplomatic and cultural ties with Colombia and the wider Latin American region.

The India Pavilion hosted seven curated exhibitions, over 105 literary sessions, 27 film screenings, and 14 cultural performances, covering a wide range of topics such as Indian literature, the writings of Mahatma Gandhi, women thinkers, ecological awareness, reading traditions, and emerging technologies like artificial intelligence. Speaking at the pavilion’s inauguration, Colombia’s Culture Minister, Yannai Kadamani Fonrodona, noted that India’s participation would greatly enhance literary and cultural understanding between India, Colombia, and Latin America.
