INS Mahendragiri is a modern stealth guided-missile frigate built by Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL). It is part of the Nilgiri-class frigates under Project 17A, designed with improved stealth features, greater survivability, and advanced combat capabilities. The ship takes its name from a mountain peak in Odisha, in line with the Indian Navy’s tradition of naming frigates after mountain ranges.

The frigate is equipped with advanced stealth technology that minimizes its radar signature, making detection more difficult. It carries a range of sophisticated weaponry, including surface-to-surface and surface-to-air missiles, anti-submarine warfare systems, and modern surveillance radars.
