Description
The National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences has started the registration process for the June 2026 session of the Foreign Medical Graduate Examination. This exam is mandatory for Indian citizens and Overseas Citizens of India (OCI) who have completed their medical degree abroad and want to practice medicine in India.
The FMGE is conducted twice a year, in June and December, and acts as a licensing screening test. Candidates must obtain the minimum qualifying marks to become eligible for registration with medical councils in India. The exam is conducted in a computer-based format and is aligned with the MBBS curriculum.
FMGE 2026 Exam Pattern
The FMGE 2026 will include 300 multiple-choice questions divided into two sections—Part A and Part B. Each section will have a duration of 2 hours and 30 minutes.

Medium: English
Marking Scheme: +1 mark for each correct answer
Negative Marking: Not applicable
To qualify, candidates must score at least 150 out of 300 marks. The passing criteria remain uniform across all categories.
FMGE 2026 Syllabus Overview
The syllabus is based on the MBBS curriculum under the Graduate Medical Education Regulations. It is divided into pre-clinical, para-clinical, and clinical subjects.
The pre-clinical and para-clinical section carries 100 marks and includes subjects such as Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry, Pathology, Microbiology, Pharmacology, and Forensic Medicine.
The clinical section carries 200 marks and covers major subjects including Medicine, Surgery, Paediatrics, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, and Community Medicine, along with allied fields like Psychiatry, Dermatology, Radiology, and Anaesthesia. The exam is designed to assess both conceptual knowledge and clinical application skills.
