Description
The Staff Selection Commission has issued the official notification for the SSC Stenographer Grade C and D Examination 2026. The online application process began on April 24, 2026. This recruitment drive aims to fill stenographer positions in various ministries, departments, and subordinate offices under the Government of India.
Application Schedule and Important Dates
Candidates can submit their applications until May 15, 2026 (11:00 PM), while the last date for fee payment is May 16, 2026. A correction window will be open from May 20 to May 21, allowing applicants to make necessary changes. The computer-based exam is expected to be conducted between July and August 2026.
Application Process
Applications must be submitted through the official SSC website or mobile app. Candidates are advised to complete the process well before the deadline to avoid technical issues due to heavy traffic.
Applicants must complete a one-time registration on the new SSC portal, as registrations from the previous system will not be valid. The Commission has also recommended using Aadhaar-based authentication to simplify verification during the recruitment process.
Vacancy and Eligibility Criteria
Around 731 vacancies have been announced, with detailed category-wise distribution to be released later. Candidates applying for these posts must have passed Class 12 or an equivalent examination from a recognized board by August 1, 2026, along with stenography skills.
For Grade C posts, the age limit is 18 to 30 years, while for Grade D posts it is 18 to 27 years (as on August 1, 2026). Relaxation in the upper age limit is applicable for reserved categories such as SC, ST, OBC, PwBD, and ex-servicemen as per government norms.
Exam Pattern and Selection Process
The examination will be conducted in computer-based mode as an open competitive test for recruitment to Group B and Group C posts. Only candidates with stenography proficiency will qualify for further stages.
Document verification will be handled by the respective departments after the final results are declared. Candidates must present original documents, including educational certificates and mark sheets. Failure to do so may result in cancellation of candidature.
Helpline and Instructions
For assistance during the application process, candidates can contact the toll-free helpline number 1800 309 3063. The Commission has emphasized that only online applications will be accepted, and incomplete forms will be rejected.
The correction facility will allow applicants to modify their submitted forms during the specified period by paying the required fee. Updated vacancy details will be released on the official website later. The Commission has also clarified that vacancies are not allocated state-wise or zone-wise, and selection will be carried out based on notified rules and departmental requirements.
