Description
The Staff Selection Commission has released detailed guidelines regarding the process for raising objections to answer keys in computer-based examinations (CBE) with multiple-choice questions. These rules will apply to exams such as Constable (GD) recruitment in Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs), SSF, and Rifleman (GD) posts in Assam Rifles Examination 2026.
Candidates are advised to follow both the instructions mentioned in the original exam notification and the newly issued guidelines. The updated system is intended to bring greater transparency and consistency in handling objections related to tentative answer keys.
Objection process and expert evaluation
After the examination, the commission publishes a provisional answer key and allows candidates to submit objections. These objections are reviewed by subject experts, and their recommendations are used to finalize the answer key.
The commission stated that these revised procedures are based on feedback received through representations, RTI applications, and legal proceedings, including observations by the Delhi High Court.
Handling disputed questions
The guidelines clearly outline how different types of discrepancies will be addressed:
If a question is incorrect, unclear, or has no valid answer, it will be removed, and marks will be awarded to all candidates
If more than one correct answer exists, candidates who selected any correct option will receive full marks, while incorrect responses will still attract negative marking
Questions found to be outside the syllabus will also be cancelled, with marks given to all candidates
The commission noted that such cases are expected to be minimal due to the broad nature of exam syllabi.
Language-related issues
The system also covers errors related to language or translation. Candidates choose their preferred language while applying and can view questions in multiple languages, but must respond in their selected medium.
If discrepancies are found in a specific language version, evaluation will be done separately for that version. Only significant errors that impact meaning or clarity will be considered, while minor issues that do not affect understanding will be ignored.
The commission emphasized that the number of objections submitted does not influence the final decision. Each objection is assessed purely on merit by experts.
These updated guidelines will be implemented for all applicable examinations starting from the 2026 cycle.
