Description
India has taken another step toward strengthening its security and defence infrastructure with the introduction of two homegrown systems developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO). The Ministry of Home Affairs has been equipped with an artificial intelligence–based satellite imaging platform named Prajna, while the Indian Navy has completed successful operational trials of the Air Droppable Container ADC-150. These innovations aim to improve surveillance capabilities, speed up emergency response, and enhance logistical support across both land and maritime operations.
AI-Based Prajna System to Enhance Surveillance
The newly developed Prajna satellite imaging system has been delivered to the Ministry of Home Affairs to assist security agencies in making quicker and more informed operational decisions. The handover took place in New Delhi, where DRDO Chairman and Defence R&D Secretary Samir V. Kamat formally presented the system to Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan.
Designed by DRDO’s Centre for Artificial Intelligence and Robotics (CAIR), the Prajna platform uses advanced artificial intelligence tools to continuously monitor sensitive locations. The system is expected to assist in identifying potential threats, improving situational awareness, and supporting counter-terrorism and internal security activities across the country.
ADC-150 Enables Rapid Supply Delivery at Sea
Alongside the deployment of Prajna, DRDO and the Indian Navy have achieved another milestone by completing a series of successful flight trials of the Air Droppable Container ADC-150. The tests were conducted from a P8I aircraft over waters near Goa between 21 February and 1 March 2026, including operations under challenging release conditions.
The ADC-150 has been designed to transport loads of up to 150 kilograms. It allows quick delivery of essential materials such as medical kits, spare equipment, and emergency supplies to naval vessels operating far from coastal bases. This capability is expected to significantly improve response time during urgent situations at sea.
Joint Effort by Multiple DRDO Facilities
The development of the ADC-150 involved coordinated work from several DRDO laboratories across the country. The Naval Science and Technological Laboratory in Visakhapatnam played the lead role in designing the system. The parachute recovery mechanism was created by the Aerial Delivery Research and Development Establishment in Agra.
Meanwhile, the Centre for Military Airworthiness and Certification in Bengaluru handled flight certification procedures, and the Defence Research and Development Laboratory in Hyderabad provided technical instrumentation support during testing. Following successful trials, the system is likely to be introduced into active naval service in the near future.
Strengthening the Aatmanirbhar Bharat Defence Vision
These developments reflect India’s ongoing focus on building self-reliant defence capabilities under the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative. By developing technologies domestically, India aims to reduce reliance on imported equipment while strengthening its operational readiness.
As modern security threats continue to evolve, technologies that enable faster surveillance and efficient supply delivery are becoming increasingly important. Systems such as Prajna and ADC-150 are expected to play a crucial role in improving India’s preparedness and strengthening national defence capabilities in the years ahead.
