Description
The All India Council for Technical Education has introduced the third phase of its flagship initiative, AICTE-VAANI, reinforcing its focus on encouraging the use of Indian languages in technical education. The scheme was officially launched by AICTE Chairman Yogesh Singh, along with the release of detailed guidelines and a dedicated online application portal.
During the launch, Prof. Singh highlighted that the initiative is designed to create an inclusive academic environment by making technical knowledge accessible in regional languages. He noted that the program will support the publication of research work in Indian languages and promote stronger collaboration between academic institutions and industry, thereby expanding the reach of technical education across linguistic groups.
He also pointed out that students who complete their schooling in their mother tongue often face difficulties when transitioning to higher education conducted in English. According to him, learning in native languages can significantly improve understanding and performance.
AICTE Member Secretary Shyama Rath emphasized that the scheme will help make technical education more accessible and relevant for students nationwide. She added that providing study materials and academic support in regional languages will enhance learning outcomes and contribute to national development.
Key features of the scheme
The initiative will allocate an annual budget of Rs 4 crore to support around 200 academic events such as conferences, seminars, and workshops. Each selected institution will receive financial assistance of Rs 2 lakh. These events will typically run for two to three days and will be conducted in 22 Indian languages, including Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Bengali, Marathi, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Punjabi, and Urdu.
The scheme focuses on 16 priority areas in emerging fields such as Artificial Intelligence and Data Science, Quantum Technology, Hydrogen Energy, Cybersecurity, Space and Defense, and Agrotech.
Application details
AICTE-approved institutions can submit applications online between April 18 and May 17, 2026, through the AICTE-ATAL portal available on the official website.
Impact of the initiative
Since its launch, the VAANI scheme has enabled the publication of more than 200 research papers in Indian languages. It has also supported the creation of academic content, strengthened institutional collaboration, and contributed to building a broader and more inclusive knowledge ecosystem in technical education across India.
