Deakin University and the Government of Telangana have signed a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in Hyderabad in April 2026 to strengthen India’s artificial intelligence (AI) ecosystem. The partnership aims to promote applied AI through collaborative research, innovation, and skill development initiatives under Telangana’s AI innovation framework.

The agreement was formalized at the Telangana State Secretariat by Professor Iain Martin and Phani Nagarjuna, a representative of Telangana’s AI innovation hub, Aikam.

Aikam-Deakin Hub: AI Innovation and Research Centre

A key outcome of this collaboration is the establishment of the Aikam-Deakin Hub for Research in Intelligent Technology and Innovation (Aikam-DHRITI).

The hub is envisioned as a centre of excellence for AI research and innovation, combining Deakin University’s global academic expertise with Telangana’s advanced technological infrastructure.

It will focus on translational research—bridging the gap between academic discoveries and real-world applications.

By leveraging Deakin University’s strong research capabilities along with the state’s digital ecosystem, the hub aims to develop practical AI solutions applicable across multiple sectors.

Focus on AI Workforce Development and Skill Enhancement

A major objective of the partnership is to upskill the workforce and create AI-ready professionals.

With AI rapidly transforming industries, there is a growing need for skilled professionals who can effectively work with intelligent systems.

The initiative will introduce specialized training programs and industry-oriented skill development initiatives to build an AI-literate workforce.
