Description
The Central Board of Secondary Education (Central Board of Secondary Education) has announced “Computational Thinking (CT) and Understanding Artificial Intelligence (AI)” as the official training theme for the academic year 2026–27. This initiative aligns with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and the National Curriculum Framework for School Education (NCFSE) 2023.
The decision reflects a broader effort to integrate modern digital skills into school education and strengthen teacher training in emerging technologies. As part of this update, CBSE has introduced a structured curriculum on Computational Thinking and AI for students from Class 3 to Class 8, starting in the 2026–27 session.
New Curriculum for Classes 3 to 8
The programme is designed to build foundational skills such as logical reasoning, problem-solving ability, and pattern recognition. It also aims to help students understand the responsible and ethical use of artificial intelligence in daily life.
Teacher Training Framework
CBSE has also developed a comprehensive training structure to support implementation. The programme includes key areas such as:
Understanding Computational Thinking and AI
Interdisciplinary teaching methods
Pedagogical approaches
Practical application in classrooms
Assessment techniques
Ethics and responsible AI usage
Teachers are encouraged to integrate these concepts across subjects like Mathematics, Science, Social Science, and Languages, rather than treating AI as a standalone topic.
Workshops and School-Level Activities
To support implementation, schools have been instructed to conduct district-level workshops and discussions on CT and AI. These one-day offline sessions will focus on sharing best practices and enhancing teacher capacity.
Schools may also collaborate through Sahodaya School Complexes, and participation in these programmes will contribute towards Continuous Professional Development (CPD) hours.
Expert Sessions and Digital Support
CBSE has proposed expert-led sessions conducted by lead schools in both online and offline formats. Additionally, digital learning resources, including programmes on DD PM e-Vidya Channel CBSE 15, will support both teachers and students.
Regional Training Programmes
CBSE Centres of Excellence (CoEs) will also organise regional workshops and orientation programmes. Teachers can register online and participate by paying the required fee. CPD credits will be awarded upon completion.
Objective of the Initiative
The main goal of this initiative is to integrate computational thinking and AI into everyday teaching practices. It encourages interdisciplinary learning and equips students with skills in coding, data science, and analytical thinking.
CBSE has also stressed the importance of teaching students the ethical and social implications of technology, ensuring responsible use of AI in education.
