The GRISHMA 2026 programme, a part of the Undergraduate Summer Research initiative at the Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur, has been announced for the 2026 session. This initiative is designed to give undergraduate students across India practical exposure to research through faculty-guided projects.

GRISHMA aims to introduce participants to academic research methods and problem-solving approaches. Selected students will collaborate with faculty members across diverse fields such as science, engineering, technology, medicine, and humanities. The programme encourages students to develop skills in identifying research problems, conducting investigations, and presenting their findings effectively.

Eligibility and Important Dates

The programme is open to undergraduate students from institutions outside IIT Kharagpur who have strong academic records and a keen interest in research.

• Application period: April 5 to April 18, 2026

• Programme duration: May 16 to June 26, 2026

• Total duration: 8 weeks

The selection process is competitive, aiming to choose students who are genuinely interested in research and innovation.

Fellowship and Financial Support

Selected participants, referred to as GRISHMA Fellows, will receive a monthly stipend of up to Rs 22,000. This support is intended to cover expenses such as accommodation, food, travel, and other essentials. The stipend is provided on a pro-rata basis depending on participation, allowing students to focus entirely on their research work.

GRISHMA is part of KRITI (Knowledge, Research and Innovation for Transformative Impact), a flagship initiative of Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur aimed at strengthening research and innovation.

KRITI serves as a structured platform that promotes learning and research at multiple levels—from school students to advanced researchers. It includes programmes such as i-KITES and RISE for school engagement, GRISHMA for undergraduate research exposure, and advanced initiatives like THESES, CRAFT, KERNEL, and CREATE for deeper academic development.

Through these initiatives, KRITI fosters curiosity, interdisciplinary collaboration, and innovation, contributing to the development of a strong research ecosystem in India.
