Bank of Baroda Introduces AI-Powered “bob SAMVAD” in Mumbai to Enhance Multilingual Banking

Banking in India is embracing cutting-edge technology, as Bank of Baroda recently launched an AI-based platform called bob SAMVAD to simplify communication between customers and bank staff. This innovation aims to remove language barriers, making banking more accessible and inclusive.

What is bob SAMVAD?

bob SAMVAD is an intelligent, AI-driven platform that allows customers and employees to interact in multiple languages seamlessly. Customers can speak or type in their preferred language, and the system instantly translates their message for the staff. Replies from the staff are similarly translated back to the customer’s language, ensuring clear and effective communication.

Official Launch in Mumbai

The platform was officially inaugurated on March 28, 2026, in Mumbai by Shri M. Nagaraju, Secretary of the Department of Financial Services under the Ministry of Finance. He lauded Bank of Baroda for leveraging modern technology to enhance customer experience and provide inclusive banking services.

How the Platform Works

At the bank counter, bob SAMVAD enables real-time conversations between customers and staff, even if they speak different languages. Supporting 22 languages, the platform delivers accurate and fast translations. Conversations appear as text on a screen, with an optional voice feature for users who prefer listening. This ensures accessibility for customers of all backgrounds and literacy levels.

The platform simplifies banking for customers who face language challenges, saving time and reducing confusion. It ensures clear understanding of information provided by staff, improving the overall quality and efficiency of service.

Focus on Technology and Innovation

Dr. Debadatta Chand, Managing Director and CEO of Bank of Baroda, highlighted that bob SAMVAD reflects the bank’s commitment to using advanced technology to enhance customer service. The platform was developed in-house using state-of-the-art AI tools for speech and language processing.

Green Initiative: bob Forest

During the launch, Shri M. Nagaraju also visited “bob Forest,” a 6,000 sq. ft. green space at the bank’s Mumbai office aimed at promoting clean air and biodiversity. This project is part of Bank of Baroda’s broader sustainability efforts, which include green deposits and green bonds.

Rollout Plan

In its first phase, bob SAMVAD will be implemented in 250 branches across Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, and Maharashtra. The bank plans to eventually expand this platform to all its branches nationwide.
