India opened its campaign at the ISSF World Cup Granada 2026 with a landmark achievement, winning a historic gold medal in the 10m air pistol mixed team event. Young Indian shooters Palak Gulia and Mukesh Nelavalli claimed the top podium position with a world-record score of 487.7, which also stands as a junior world record, underlining their outstanding performance on the international stage. 

World-record display in the final

The Indian duo showed remarkable composure and accuracy during the gold medal match. Palak registered 243.0, while Mukesh added 244.7, taking their combined total to a record-breaking 487.7. The Chinese pair Qianxun Yao and Kai Hu secured the silver medal with 484.8. Hungary’s Veronika Major and Akos Karoly Nagy finished third to take bronze with 414.9.

Strong momentum from qualification

Palak and Mukesh had already demonstrated impressive consistency during the qualification round, finishing second with 581-17x, just behind the Chinese team that led with 586-23x. Their steady form in qualification translated into an even stronger performance in the final, where they elevated their game to secure the gold medal.

Emerging talents in Indian shooting

At just 18 years old, Palak rose to prominence at the 2023 Asian Games, where she captured gold in the individual 10m air pistol event and earned a team silver medal. She also secured an Olympic quota for Paris 2024 Olympics with a record-setting performance. Mukesh Nelavalli, already a junior world champion, is widely viewed as a rising star and an important prospect for India’s future in shooting.
