Description

The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has released the schedule for the Engineering Services Examination (ESE) Mains 2026. The written examination is scheduled for June 21, 2026, for candidates who have cleared the preliminary stage. On this day, aspirants will appear for two discipline-specific papers, conducted in separate shifts.

Exam Mode and Structure

The ESE Mains 2026 will be held in conventional (descriptive) mode, assessing candidates’ in-depth knowledge of core engineering subjects. The exam covers four streams:

  • Civil Engineering

  • Mechanical Engineering

  • Electrical Engineering

  • Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering

Each paper carries 300 marks, making the total for the written stage 600 marks, which is crucial for shortlisting candidates for the interview round. Candidates should align their preparation with the official exam pattern to optimize their performance.

Timings for Mains Papers

The Mains examination will consist of two papers, each of three hours, held in the following shifts:

  • Paper I: 09:00 AM – 12:00 Noon

  • Paper II: 02:30 PM – 05:30 PM

Both papers are offline, requiring detailed descriptive answers. Each paper focuses on core subjects specific to the candidate’s engineering discipline.
