Description

The Supreme Court of India on Friday revised its earlier April 2 ruling, allowing only a single Candidate to sit for the Rajasthan Sub-Inspector (SI) Recruitment Examination 2025. Previously, permission had been granted to 713 candidates to appear, as reported by PTI.

The exam, conducted by the Rajasthan Public Service Commission (RPSC), is scheduled for April 5 and 6, 2025. The recruitment drive is being held to fill 1,015 vacancies for Sub-Inspector and Platoon Commander posts, with more than 7.7 lakh applicants expected to participate.

Supreme Court revises earlier decision

A bench of Justices Dipankar Datta and Satish Chandra Sharma reconsidered its prior order after hearing arguments presented by the RPSC.

Earlier, the court had instructed the commission to issue provisional admit cards to 713 candidates, including petitioner Suraj Mal Meena. However, after further review, the court limited the benefit to Meena alone.

The bench also noted that candidates who were not part of the original petition are free to seek relief from the Rajasthan High Court.

Background of the matter

The controversy stems from the SI and Platoon Commander recruitment exam, which was previously cancelled due to allegations of irregularities and malpractice. The RPSC later announced a fresh examination but did not provide age relaxation to candidates who had crossed the eligibility limit in the meantime.

This decision was challenged in the Rajasthan High Court. Initially, a single-judge bench permitted affected candidates to appear provisionally. However, a division bench later stayed that order, leading one of the candidates to approach the Supreme Court.

Key directions from the court

The Supreme Court has now clarified the following:

  • Only one candidate is permitted to appear in the exam

  • Other affected candidates can move the Rajasthan High Court

  • The final outcome will depend on the High Court’s pending decision

The RPSC SI recruitment exam will proceed as planned on April 5 and 6, 2025. Candidates are advised to stay updated through official announcements for any further developments.
