Description
The Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation has introduced the RuPay On-The-Go National Common Mobility Card (NCMC) on April 1, 2026, marking a significant move towards digital transformation in public transport. The initiative was launched by Devendra Fadnavis, who emphasised its role in improving convenience, transparency, and efficiency in bus services.
Smart Card for Various Passenger Groups
Under this scheme, NCMC-enabled smart cards linked to Aadhaar will be provided to different passenger categories, including students, senior citizens, women, and persons with disabilities. The system is designed to streamline the process of availing fare concessions while ensuring transparency in ticketing.
At the launch event, cards were distributed symbolically to beneficiaries from various groups.
Extensive Registration and Distribution Network
To ensure wide reach, registration and distribution will take place across all MSRTC depots and bus stations. Additionally, nearly 3,000 authorised centres have been set up across the state to facilitate easy access and faster adoption of the smart card system.
Digital Payments and Recharge Options
The NCMC smart card will operate as a prepaid wallet with a minimum recharge value of Rs.100. Users can top up their cards through multiple platforms, including onboard ETIM machines, official portals, mobile apps, and authorised agents.
The card is priced at Rs.199, making it accessible for regular commuters.
