Description

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) celebrated the accomplishments of India’s World Cup-winning teams at the Naman Awards 2026 in New Delhi. The ceremony recognised the success of Indian cricketers across various formats and age groups in recent international tournaments. Star performers Shubman Gill and Smriti Mandhana were honoured as BCCI Cricketers of the Year, acknowledging their exceptional contributions during the 2024-25 season. In addition, several legends of Indian cricket were recognised for their lifelong dedication to the sport.

Honouring India’s World Cup-winning Teams

The BCCI felicitated five Indian teams that recently clinched World Cup titles across different categories. These included the Under-19 Women’s World Cup, ICC Champions Trophy, Under-19 Men’s World Cup, Women’s ODI World Cup, and ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. These victories underscore the depth of talent in Indian cricket and the effectiveness of the country’s development programs across both men’s and women’s cricket.

Shubman Gill and Smriti Mandhana Receive Top Awards

Shubman Gill was awarded the prestigious Polly Umrigar Award for Best International Cricketer (Men) for the 2024-25 season. As captain of India in Test and ODI formats, Gill was recognised for his consistent performances and leadership. Smriti Mandhana claimed the Polly Umrigar Award for Best International Cricketer (Women), marking her fifth time receiving the accolade. Mandhana also finished as the leading run-scorer in Women’s One Day Internationals during the season.

Lifetime Achievements Honoured

The event also celebrated cricketing legends with the Col. C. K. Nayudu Lifetime Achievement Award, the BCCI’s highest honour. Roger Binny and Rahul Dravid were recognised for their remarkable contributions as players and administrators. Former India captain Mithali Raj received the BCCI Lifetime Achievement Award for Women for her extraordinary international career and influence on women’s cricket in India.

Additionally, domestic cricketing excellence was recognised, with awards for top run-scorers, leading wicket-takers, and outstanding all-round performances in tournaments such as the Ranji Trophy, Vijay Merchant Trophy, Cooch Behar Trophy, and Col. C. K. Nayudu Trophy. Emerging talent was also highlighted, with promising newcomers like Harshit Rana and N. Sree Charani being honoured for their international debuts, reflecting the strong pipeline of future stars in Indian cricket.
