Agni-4 operates using a two-stage solid-fuel propulsion system, which allows faster launch preparation and greater reliability compared to older missile technologies. The missile can travel up to around 4,000 kilometers, giving India the ability to reach targets far beyond its immediate neighborhood.

The missile can carry a payload of roughly 1,000 kilograms and measures about 20 meters in length. It is designed to be launched from a road-mobile platform, which improves survivability and operational flexibility. In addition, Agni-4 uses an advanced inertial navigation system supported by a ring laser gyroscope, enabling more accurate targeting. The missile was introduced to fill the capability gap between earlier systems such as Agni-II and Agni-III.

Shaheen-II Missile Overview

Pakistan’s Shaheen-II, also known as Hatf-VI, is a medium-range ballistic missile developed by the country’s National Engineering and Scientific Commission. It forms a vital part of Pakistan’s missile-based deterrence strategy and is capable of carrying nuclear warheads.

The missile is powered by a two-stage solid propellant system, which allows it to remain ready for launch while reducing the time needed for preparation. Shaheen-II has a maximum range estimated at 1,500 to 2,000 kilometers, making it suitable for regional strategic targets.

In terms of payload capacity, the missile can deliver between 700 and 1,000 kilograms. It is approximately 17.2 meters long and is launched using a transporter-erector-launcher (TEL) vehicle, allowing high mobility and quick deployment. The missile relies on inertial guidance along with terminal corrections, which improves strike precision during the final stage of its trajectory.

Differences in Range and Capability

One of the most significant differences between the two missile systems is their operational range. Agni-4 has a much longer reach of about 4,000 kilometers, enabling India to target locations far beyond the South Asian region. In contrast, Shaheen-II has a shorter range of around 1,500 to 2,000 kilometers, which mainly covers regional targets.

Payload capacity between the two missiles is relatively similar. Agni-4 can carry about 1,000 kilograms, while Shaheen-II can transport 700 to 1,000 kilograms. However, Agni-4 is slightly larger in size, measuring roughly 20 meters, compared with Shaheen-II’s 17.2 meters.

Another major difference lies in their guidance technologies. Agni-4 incorporates a ring laser gyroscope-based navigation system, which enhances accuracy and reliability. Shaheen-II relies mainly on inertial guidance combined with terminal corrections to improve targeting performance.
