Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal inaugurated the 40th edition of the AAHAR International Food and Hospitality Fair in New Delhi. Organized jointly by the Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MoFPI) and the India Trade Promotion Organisation (ITPO), the event runs from 10 to 14 March 2026. The fair serves as a key platform for businesses and entrepreneurs in food processing, hospitality, and agriculture to showcase innovations, products, and explore trade opportunities.

Asia’s Premier Food and Hospitality Exhibition

Recognized as one of Asia’s top events in its sector, AAHAR brings together local and international exhibitors, buyers, and policymakers. The fair aims to foster collaborations, business partnerships, and investment opportunities. In addition to professional networking, the exhibition will also welcome the general public from the evening of 13 March until the next day.

Boosting Trade and Export Opportunities

During the inauguration, Minister Goyal emphasized how trade fairs like AAHAR help Indian exporters take advantage of free trade agreements (FTAs). He highlighted that India is now the seventh-largest exporter worldwide, with agricultural and marine products contributing nearly ?5 lakh crore annually. Expanding trade ties globally is expected to further strengthen the country’s export capabilities.

Strategic Free Trade Agreements

The minister noted that India has successfully signed nine FTAs over the last three and a half years, opening up access to 38 developed economies. These agreements provide Indian exporters with preferential access to foreign markets and better integration into international supply chains. Important agricultural products such as rice, wheat, maize, soy meal, and various pulses have been protected to ensure domestic interests are safeguarded.

Italy Designated as Partner Country

For the first time, Italy has been chosen as the partner country for AAHAR. The Italian Ambassador to India highlighted the event’s potential to deepen cooperation in the agro-food sector. European markets represent significant opportunities for Indian exports, with trade agreements allowing very low or zero duties on many products. The partnership is expected to encourage investment, trade growth, and collaboration in the food processing and hospitality industries.
