The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) has successfully dismantled a major nationwide drug distribution network operating under the name “Team Kalki.” The network reportedly leveraged darknet marketplaces and encrypted communication platforms to distribute narcotics and psychotropic substances across India. The crackdown, executed in New Delhi, follows three months of intelligence gathering and marks a significant blow to online drug trafficking in the country.

Darknet-Based Operations

According to the NCB, the network had been active since January 2025, heavily relying on darknet platforms for anonymous drug sales. Traffickers also used the encrypted messaging app Session to coordinate orders, payments, and deliveries. These platforms allowed the group to conceal their identities and locations, making them particularly appealing for organized drug trafficking across regions.

Seizure of Domestic and International Parcels

During the investigation, authorities intercepted multiple consignments linked to the network. Narcotics were seized from 13 domestic parcels and two international parcels originating from the Netherlands. Investigators believe the group relied on courier and postal services to discreetly distribute drugs across several Indian cities.

Use of Cryptocurrency and Encrypted Communication

NCB officials also recovered several electronic devices from the accused. Analysis revealed a cryptocurrency wallet believed to be connected to the network, suggesting the use of digital currencies to conduct transactions anonymously. The case highlights a growing trend among traffickers of combining darknet platforms, encrypted messaging, and cryptocurrency to operate covertly.

Large-Scale Distribution Suspected

Preliminary findings indicate that Team Kalki may have dispatched over 1,000 drug consignments across India since January 2025. Forensic analysis of seized devices and financial records is ongoing to identify additional members and uncover further international connections. This operation underscores the increasing challenges faced by law enforcement agencies in combating cyber-enabled drug trafficking.
