Description

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated two new corridors of the Delhi Metro, including India’s first fully operational “Ring Metro,” marking a major advancement in the capital’s urban transit infrastructure. The launch comprises the Majlis Park–Maujpur-Babarpur stretch of the Pink Line and the Deepali Chowk–Majlis Park extension of the Magenta Line, aimed at significantly enhancing connectivity across north and northeast Delhi.

Pink Line Becomes India’s First Ring Metro

The newly opened Majlis Park–Maujpur-Babarpur corridor spans approximately 12.3 kilometres with multiple elevated stations. With this addition, the Pink Line now stretches about 71.56 kilometres, forming a loop across several city areas and establishing India’s first fully operational Ring Metro system.

Key stations on this corridor include Majlis Park, Burari, Jharoda Majra, Jagatpur-Wazirabad, Soorghat, Nanaksar-Sonia Vihar, Khajuri Khas, Bhajanpura, Yamuna Vihar, and Maujpur-Babarpur. Notable engineering features include a bridge over the Yamuna River and a double-decker viaduct carrying both a metro track and a road flyover.

Magenta Line Extended in North Delhi

The Deepali Chowk–Majlis Park extension of the Magenta Line covers around 9.9 kilometres and includes elevated stations at Deepali Chowk, Madhuban Chowk, Uttar Pitampura-Prashant Vihar, Haiderpur Village, Haiderpur Badli Mor, Bhalswa, and Majlis Park.

This expansion brings the total length of the Magenta Line to nearly 49 kilometres. Certain sections rise up to 28.36 metres above ground, making it one of the tallest elevated segments in the Delhi Metro network.

Phase-V Expansion: New Corridors in the Pipeline

During the inauguration, Prime Minister Modi also laid the foundation for three additional corridors under Phase-V (A) of the Delhi Metro expansion. These include:

  • Central Vista corridor (Ramakrishna Ashram Marg–Indraprastha) – an underground line connecting key government and cultural landmarks.

  • Golden Line extension (Aerocity–IGI Airport Terminal 1) – enhancing airport connectivity.

  • Golden Line extension (Tughlakabad–Kalindi Kunj) – strengthening access between Delhi, Noida, and nearby regions.

Boost to Urban Mobility

The newly inaugurated corridors are set to improve connectivity between residential neighborhoods, commercial hubs, and transport nodes across the city. The Central Vista corridor will provide direct access to landmarks like Central Secretariat, India Gate, and Bharat Mandapam, while the Golden Line extensions will facilitate smoother travel to the airport and surrounding areas, supporting Delhi’s growing urban mobility needs.
